How Mental Health, Registered Nurses (RN) support our teams at Grand River Hospital
The Registered Nurse provides psychiatric and mental health nursing care working within a team with individuals experiencing psychiatric and mental health problems. The patient population includes the severely mentally ill and those who are experiencing a psychosocial crisis. Nursing care is provided in accordance with the Canadian Standards of Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing (CNA).
At Grand River Hospital, our Registered Nurses (RN) are key members of our interdisciplinary teams. Delivering exceptional care to our patients and ensuring a safe, supportive and welcoming environment, our RPNs also:
xc2xb7 Support and promote collaborative team practices
xc2xb7 Utilize evidence-based practices and analysis of outcomes to identify opportunities for improvement and promote professional accountability
xc2xb7 Consult with our multidiscipline teams to ensure our patients receive the highest level of care and support
At Grand River Hospital, our Mental Registered Practical Nurses (RPNs):
xc2xb7 Current Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario
xc2xb7 Post diploma in Psychiatric Nursing preferred
xc2xb7 Experience in mental health nursing preferred
xc2xb7 Certification (CNA), Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing preferred, or willingness to obtain certification.
xc2xb7 BScN preferred
xc2xb7 Practices in accordance with Canadian Standards of Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing
xc2xb7 Demonstrates excellent interpersonal skills, including ability to engage in conflict resolution
xc2xb7 Working knowledge of psychiatric and mental health disorders, the management of psychiatric emergencies and related psychiatric/ psychosocial interventions and treatment models
xc2xb7 Comprehensive knowledge and experience in administration and/or monitoring of psychotropic medications
xc2xb7 Excellent interviewing skills
xc2xb7 Evidence of putting recovery principles into practice with patients and their families
xc2xb7 Strong skills in biopsychosocial assessments, care planning, crisis plans, psychiatric nursing interventions and complete outcome evaluation for individual care.
xc2xb7 Case Management experience preferred, with ability to develop strong community agencies relationships
xc2xb7 Knowledge of Community Resources required
xc2xb7 Excellent Knowledge of the Mental Health Act, the Health Care Consent Act and other relevant legislation
xc2xb7 Strong consultation skills with the Interdisciplinary team and Community partners.
xc2xb7 Knowledge of Family assessment/Family systems theory
xc2xb7 Excellent organizational and problem solving skills
xc2xb7 Ability to conduct risk assessments, risk management and debriefing
xc2xb7 Contributes to ensuring there is a safe environment for patients, staff and visitors
xc2xb7 Good attendance record
xc2xb7 Advanced de-escalation, Code White training
xc2xb7 Basic Rescuer CPR
