As a Registered Nurse at Vancouver Coastal Health you will:
Use sound judgment and applies critical thinking skills in providing client care to a predominantly older client population in an adult day program setting, both by working independently and as a member of an interdisciplinary team.
Demonstrate expertise and leadership in nursing practice and coordinates the implementation of clinical interventions, evaluation of client outcomes based on the client's goals of care.
Act as a resource for the interdisciplinary team by providing information and coordination of ongoing client care.
Support the work of care aides and LPN's and supports cohesive team work to ensure client centered care.
Enhance the quality of life of the client/family by consulting, conferring and collaborating with other health care providers.
Maintain and advance own clinical competence and participate on designated committees/teams and approved research projects as assigned.
Qualifications:
Education & Experience
Current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
One (1) year recent related clinical experience working with a varied client population such as geriatric, older adult and mental health clients in an adult day program setting including recent experience using the RAI instrument in clinical practice, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Skills & Abilities
Broad knowledge of mental illness and treatment.
Broad knowledge of substance abuse and addictions treatment.
Broad knowledge of psychopharmacology (indications and side-effects).
Broad knowledge of counseling skills and group facilitation skills.
Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively as a member of an interdisciplinary team.
Comprehensive knowledge of other health care disciplines and their role in client care.
Demonstrated ability to adapt and respond to the client flow and health delivery system.
Demonstrated ability to work with individuals with diverse backgrounds.
General knowledge of Trauma Informed Practice and Harm Reduction approaches and Strengths-based care
Demonstrated ability to promote Indigenous Cultural Safety.
Demonstrated ability to provide competent and culturally safe care in a variety of settings and with diverse populations.
Broad knowledge of other facilities and community resources.
Demonstrated ability to deal effectively with conflict situations.
Demonstrated ability to provide consultation, leadership and work direction.
Demonstrated knowledge of the principles and practices of conceptual models of psychiatric care.
Knowledge of the Mental Health Act as it applies to the rights and obligations of clients and staff.
Demonstrated ability to participate in the development and delivery of educational programs and materials for clients and families based on education theories, principles and best practices.
Demonstrated ability to identify emotional, social, or environmental barriers and intervene to eliminate stigma.
Ability to maintain and establish rapport with clients.
Demonstrated ability in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) techniques.
Demonstrated ability to apply decision making and analytical skills.
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
Demonstrated ability to effectively engage/solve conflict situations.
Demonstrated ability to plan, organize and prioritize work.
Ability to operate related equipment including applicable software applications.
Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.

The hours of work including days off and work area may be subject to change consistent with operational requirements and the provision of the Collective Agreement and applicable statutes.
