Job Description

Duties:

As a member of an interdisciplinary team, you will work actively and collaboratively in organizing and delivering care to clients in a mental health setting. As a Resource Team Registered Nurse, you must be able to work in all nursing units of the Royal Ottawa Mental Health Centre where you will:

  • Provide person centered nursing care consistent with Standards of the College of Nurses of Ontario and patient treatment/rehabilitation needs and goals. Assist in assessment of patients' needs and in the development, implementation and evaluation of a plan of care for assigned patients in collaboration and consultation with members of the interdisciplinary team.
  • Establish and promote effective therapeutic relationships with patients and their families.
  • Promote a supportive working relationship and effective communication with the interdisciplinary team.
  • Accountable to meet College of Nurses of Ontario Professional Standards and policies and procedures of the Royal.
  • Commit to ongoing professional development
  • Monitor and document patient response to therapeutic interventions.
  • Safe preparation and administration of medication as per policy and standards. Apply the Mental Health Act and all other legislation related to the practice of mental health nursing
  • Must be able to work in all units in the hospital and long-term care
  • Work in a manner that is in compliance with staff and patient/client safety practices, policies and procedures of The Royal.
  • Ensure a work environment that is conducive to The Royal's Anti-Racism, Harassment & Discrimination Free Workplace Policy.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:

Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario is required.

BScN is preferred.

CPMHN(c) an asset.

Clear understanding of MHA and relevant legislation.

Able to demonstrate knowledge and skill in mental health nursing practice as articulated in the Canadian Standards of Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing Practice.

Able to meet the Standards of nursing practice of the College of Nurses of Ontario.

Ability to work on all units of the ROMHC.

Completion of CPI or equivalent.

CPR certification within last 12 months.

WHMIS update in preceding 12 months.

Fire update in preceding 12 months.

Basic computer skills required.

Experience with electronic health records an asset

English level A- is mandatory in oral expression, oral comprehension, reading comprehension and written expression. Bilingual (French/English) is considered an asset.
