Registered Nurse, Renal Unit Hemodialysis

BC Children\xe2\x80\x99s Hospital

Vancouver, BC

The Registered Nurse (RN) provides and coordinates nursing care services such as patient assessment, patient and family teaching hemodialysis unit procedures, and health promotion activities consistent with established policies, standards of practice and philosophy at British Columbia\xe2\x80\x99s Children\xe2\x80\x99s Hospital.

What you\xe2\x80\x99ll do

• Initiate and coordinate assessment and post assessment referrals, respond to patient, family and health care member\xe2\x80\x99s enquiries, and liaise with other support diagnostic/health services in coordinating patient referrals.
• Collect and document patient health care information on patients and their families, maintain records of nursing observations, interventions, teaching and evaluation of nursing care. Maintain records of telephone communications as well.
• Plan and coordinate patient care activities in the clinic or the renal unit. Utilize developmentally appropriate nursing skills and techniques, based on the age of the patient, in caring for pediatric patients.
• Collaborate in the planning of patient are with nursing staff, medical staff, health care disciplines, and community agencies/services to facilitate patient care in the clinic and inpatient areas.
• Provide direct patient care for children in the renal unit such as accessing shunts and monitoring dialysis procedures in the renal unit and in Intensive Care.

What you bring

• Graduation from an approved School of Nursing with current practicing registration as an RN with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
• One (1) year\xe2\x80\x99s recent related experience such as ambulatory care or community health service experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Hemodialysis Certified

You will also have the ability to:

• Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
• Relate effectively to patients and their families and others.
• Function as an active member of a multidisciplinary team, and function as a nursing resource.
• Organize work and physically perform the duties of the job.
• Operate related equipment

• Awareness of and commitment to learning and understanding the Truth & Reconciliation Commission\xe2\x80\x99s 94 Calls to Action (2015), In Plain Sight Report (2020), BC\'s Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019), and other related reports.
• Commitment to upholding the shared responsibility of creating lasting and meaningful reconciliation in Canada as per TRC (2015) and BC\'s Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019).
• As a strong asset for consideration, we are looking for our successful candidate to have: Knowledge of social, economic, political and historical realities impacting indigenous communities and familiarity with Indigenous Cultural Safety and anti-racism and accompanying reports (BC DRIPA, TRC, etc.).

Wage: $40.21 to $54.28 per hour
