Your Opportunity:The Registered Nurse / Registered Psychiatric nurse works with children and youth supporting Tertiary programming at the GRH, providing safe, ethical nursing care, as well as integrating knowledge, skills and ability to ensure ongoing assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care of the pediatric day patient in a mental health setting. As a member of the interdisciplinary team, the Registered Nurse / Registered Psychiatric Nurse facilitates collaborative planning with the family and patient central to the decision-making process. The incumbent is reliable and maintains a high degree of professionalism. Responsibilities include participation in activities and initiatives aimed at promoting, maintaining, and improving quality and safety for patients, families, and caregivers. Responsibilities also include advocating for children in schools and triaging for treatment, as well as parent/school teaching on illnesses, medications, and funding requirements. This position may involve assuming the charge nurse role and as such the successful candidate will require solid leadership skills. NOTE: FTE is based on the Edmonton Public School Calendar. Employee works full-time during the school calendar year and is off during school closure periods including Easter, Spring Break, Christmas and summer holidays.Description:As a Registered Psychiatric Nurse (RPN), you will provide leadership through a wide variety of nursing services to patients (clients, residents) for the purpose of promoting, maintaining or restoring health, mental health and preventing mental illness, injury and disability. You will teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and take necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care, while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit Holders shall be paid $35.87/hour - $43.82/hour. Upon being entered into the register of Registered Psychiatric Nurses, the rate of pay shall be adjusted to the rate of pay applicable to a Registered Psychiatric Nurse in accordance with AHS/UNA Article 25.02(a)(i) or (ii) as applicable. Required Qualifications:Completion of an accredited Psychiatric nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Psychiatric Nurses of Alberta (CRPNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). Additional Required Qualifications:Within the last 5 years, a minimum of at least two year\'s experience working in a children\'s mental health care setting. Must have proven communication, behavioural management, clinical observation and assessment skills. Must have knowledge of treatment and medications used to treat children and adolescents with neuropsychiatric illness. Physically able to lift 11 kg, climb 3 flights of stairs, participate in gym activities and escort children into environment restraints or use physical restraints when required. This position works with children and youth who are experiencing significant mental health and/or behaviour issues and may demonstrate dysregulation, loud voices, anger and/or anxiety. Preferred Qualifications:A baccalaureate degree in nursing is preferred; however, skills and experience relevant to nursing practice will be considered. Experience in working with a multidisciplinary team would be an asset.
