The Registered Nurse in Surgical Services works collaboratively as a member of the health care team.
The RN will possess the theoretical knowledge and technical skills required to work in the peri-operative setting.
The RN provides direct patient care to patients based on the three-factor framework as outlined in the College of Nurses of Ontario standard, RN and RPN Practice: The Client, Nurse and the Environment.
These three factors have an impact on decision making related to care-provider assignment as well as the need for consultation and collaboration among care providers.
QUALIFICIATIONS
The ideal candidate will possess the following key competencies, record of experience and academic preparation:

• Current certificate of registration in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario
• Must be compliant with College of Nurses quality assurance standards
• Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (B.C.L.S.)
• Current ACLS and PALS Certification
• Excellent clinical, decision making and critical thinking skills
• Excellent verbal, written, communication and organizational skills
• OR Certification
• Current OR experience
• Proficient with IV starts/phlebotomy
• Ability to adapt to change in a fast paced working environment
• Demonstrated ability to use critical thinking and problem solving skills to ensure positive patient outcomes
• Demonstrated satisfactory work performance and attendance history
• Demonstrated leadership qualities, communication skills necessary to promote positive interdisciplinary team dynamics is an asset

ASSESTS

• Bilingual - English and French
• Fluency in both English & French
• Experience in assisting with flexible scopes
• CSAO Course is an asset
• Canadian Perioperative Nursing Certification is an asset
• PACU experience

COMPENSATION

• Hourly rate of pay $39.07 - $56.00, up to an additional 14% in lieu of benefits and 6% in lieu of vacation to start.

HOURS OF WORK
Permanent Casual. Required to provide availability each month. Shifts include days, evenings, weekends and statutory holidays. Shifts and hours may change according to departmental requirements and as per the ONA collective agreement.
