(employee will be working with or have access to children or vulnerable adults and requires a Criminal Record Check)Required for Professional RegistrationIn accordance with the Vision, Purpose, and Values, and strategic direction of the Vancouver Island Health Authority, patient safety is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone at VIHA; as such, the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position.Reports to the Nurse Manager, or designate, the Registered Nurse - Perinatal plans and provides direct nursing care to obstetrical patients in the hospital in accordance with the unit/program philosophy, competency guidelines, policies; national, provincial, regional and local obstetrical guidelines and the BC College of Nurses and Midwives Standards for Nursing Practice in British Columbia.QUALIFICATIONS:Education, Training And ExperienceRegistration with BC College of Nurses and Midwives as a practicing RN registrantGraduate of a recognized Perinatal Nursing specialty program.Current CPR Basic Rescuer.Current Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) CertificateFetal Health Surveillance Course CertificateBreastfeeding Course CertificateTwo (2) years recent related experience; ORan equivalent combination of education, training and experienceSkills And Abilities

  • Ability to apply the nursing process effectively in a well-organized manner to the care of assigned patients as required by the hospital and described in BC College of Nurses and Midwives Standared of Nursing Practice.
  • Demonstrate sound organizational, problem solving and teaching skills.
  • Demonstrate good judgement, observation and patient assessment skills.
  • Demonstrate Respectful Workplace skills, such as politeness, tact and empathy.
  • Prioritize, and organize patient demands and care needs.
  • Operate related equipment.
  • Provide leadership in emergency situations.
  • Work as part of a multidisciplinary health care team.
  • Assume charge responsibility as needed.

  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
