Job Summary
The Registered Nurse (RN) role models clinical excellence and the core competencies of the practice standards of the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO), as well as the policies and procedures of Southlake Health. The RN works collaboratively as a member of the health care team. The RN provides direct patient care to patients based on the three-factor framework as outlined in the College of Nurses of Ontario standard, RN and RPN Practice: The Client, Nurse and the Environment. These three factors have an impact on decision making related to care-provider assignment as well as the need for consultation and collaboration among care providers. All nurses make a commitment to lifelong learning.
The successful candidate will be motivated, self-directed and a key member of a dynamic interdisciplinary team with defined roles focused on quality patient care and patient flow. The successful candidate will be responsible to provide excellent care to a diverse acute medical patient population in a fast-paced setting.
The Registered Nurse, Outpatient Oncology Clinics practices at a high level of autonomy and accountability in collaboration with oncologists and the inter-professional health care team to provide a continuum of patient care from prevention, early detection, diagnosis, treatment, follow-up, palliation, bereavement and survivorship. The Registered Nurse, Outpatient Oncology Clinics will plan, coordinate and assess all aspects of care of the cancer client and family, following the standards set out by the: Canadian Association of Nurses in Oncology (CANO) Standards of Care, Roles of Oncology.
Qualifications
Registered and in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) as a Registered Nurse
Certification in chemotherapy administration from a recognized institution (de Souza Institute/ Oncology Nurses Society [ONS]) within the first 6 months of hire, demonstration of annual recertification.
CON (C) preferred
Active member of Canadian Association of Nurses in Oncology (CANO) preferred
One (1) years of recent and relevant clinical nursing experience (within the last 5 years) on an adult oncology/Cancer unit or program required
Minimum of one (1) year of experience with the initiation of IV therapy and central venous access devices required
Minimum of 1-3 years of experience as a primary nurse in an ambulatory clinic environment preferred
Minimum of 1-3 years of experience with telephone triage nursing principles and practices preferred
Excellent physical assessment skills

Primary Responsibilities
