Utilizing the nursing process to provide safe, competent care to assigned patients; using a systematic problem-solving approach to assess the condition and identify the needs of the patient; observing and enforcing aseptic technique and infection control principles required in the prevention of nosocomial and communicable diseases; developing a plan of care for patients in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team; maintaining competence and professionalism relevant to current practice; and performing other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Current Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario;
Current B.C.L.S.;
Significant recent general medicine or equivalent related experience;
Significant and recent experience in caring for a patient with infectious diseases;
Knowledge of infection control and health and safety practices and procedures;
Demonstrated sound judgement, good observation and patient assessment skills;
Sound knowledge and application of nursing skills as listed in the C.O.N. "Standards of Nursing Practice";
Proven good organizational, prioritization; time-management; problem-solving and teaching skills;
Effective communication and interpersonal skills;
Demonstrated ability to perform appropriately in emergency situations;
Physically capable of lifting, turning, transferring patients manually and with mechanical aids;
Proven ability to assume a charge/preceptorship role;
Infection control experience and strong pulmonary assessment skills, preferred;
Demonstrated commitment to maintain Reflective Practice Standards as outlined by the CON;
B.Sc.N, preferred;
Must have a satisfactory performance record.
Demonstrated competence in central line management, IV therapy, wound care management, Tracheostomy care and caring for the elderly, preferred;
Demonstrated commitment to our core values of Inclusion, Compassion, Innovation, Teamwork and Joy; and
Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to Lakeridge Health's comprehensive safety programs and practices including staff, patient and environmental safety and participation in regular in-service in this area
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
The terms and conditions of employment are in accordance with the Collective Agreement between the Hospital and the Ontario Nurses Association (RN Bargaining Unit Local 051).
