Your Opportunity:

The Registered Nurse, operating room position is responsible for providing perioperative patient care using the Nursing process in accordance with CARNA, Operating Room Nurses Association of Canada (ORNAC), and CSA standards of practice. The Nurse will demonstrate competence in delivering safe, effective, and efficient care in both the scrub and circulating roles as an integral part of the surgical team. The Nurse is responsible for providing safe care throughout the patient stay in the surgical suite. The Nursing scope of practice is a continuum ranging from basic to advanced clinical Nursing activities. The Nurse will practice using evidence based measures and outcomes. The Nurse is a patient advocate and provides a link between the patient care unit and the Operating Room. The Registered Nurse draws on a unique body of nursing knowledge. The successful applicant is well aware that the key to being an extraordinary OR nurse is teamwork, and you work together with other nurses and the surgeon to ensure patient safety and the success of the surgery. In order to stay completely focused on the surgical procedures, surgeons rely on their OR nurse to exchange surgical equipment as needed and to keep everyone up to date on the patient's vitals. As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). Additional Required Qualifications:

Minimum 2 years' experience in an Operating Room. Ability to collaborate within the expectations of a highly complex integrated team. Demonstrated advanced problem-solving skills integrating critical thinking and good judgement. Demonstrated communication skills promoting respect and team spirit. Ability to stand scrubbed for many hours and to meet the physical demands of the position including patient transfers, physically holding a limb for surgical prep, and caring for patients with unpredictable behavior as they awaken from anesthesia. Ability to wear a lead apron protection for an extended period of time. Successful completion of a Perioperative Nursing course or equivalent experience required. Preferred Qualifications:

Current CNA Perioperative Nursing certification preferred.
