Your Opportunity:
The Registered Nurse, operating room position is responsible for providing perioperative patient care using the Nursing process in accordance with CARNA, Operating Room Nurses Association of Canada (ORNAC), and CSA standards of practice. The Nurse will demonstrate competence in delivering safe, effective, and efficient care in both the scrub and circulating roles as an integral part of the surgical team. The Nurse is responsible for providing safe care throughout the patient stay in the surgical suite. The Nursing scope of practice is a continuum ranging from basic to advanced clinical Nursing activities. The Nurse will practice using evidence-based measures and outcomes. The Nurse is a patient advocate and provides a link between the patient care unit and the Operating Room. The Registered Nurse draws on a unique body of nursing knowledge. The nurse will be part of an on-call rotation for emergency surgeries. The successful applicant is well aware that the key to being an extraordinary OR nurse is teamwork, and you work together with other nurses and the surgeon to ensure patient safety and the success of the surgery. In order to stay completely focused on the surgical procedures, surgeons rely on their OR nurse to exchange surgical equipment as needed and to keep everyone up to date on the patient's vitals. It is the strong form of camaraderie that can make the OR environment, while high-stress, enjoyable and extremely rewarding. The nurse will also care for ambulatory outpatients, including iv infusions and surgeon specialty clinic on non surgical days. As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit Holders shall be paid $39.58 /hour - $54.16/hour. Upon being entered into the register of Registered Nurses, the rate of pay shall be adjusted to the rate of pay applicable to a Registered Nurse in accordance with AHS/UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii) as applicable.

Required Qualifications:
Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). If you have not practiced as a Registered Nurse within the last five (5) years, completion of the following free courses is required: CRNA Medication Management - Chapters 1 - 4 (https://connect.nurses.ab.ca/home/%2Flearning-and-development%2Flearning-modules%2F) and the NextGenU Health Assessment Resources Certification (https://courses.nextgenu.org/course/view.php?id=271#section-0) Additional Required Qualifications:
Minimum 1 year experience in an Operating Room or Acute Care in the last 2 years. Ability to take call on evenings, nights, and weekends required. Demonstrated advanced problem-solving skills integrating critical thinking and good judgement. Demonstrated communication skills promoting respect and team spirit. Ability to stand scrubbed for many hours and to meet the physical demands of the position including patient transfers, physically holding a limb for surgical prep, and caring for patients with unpredictable behavior as they awaken from anesthesia. Ability to wear a lead apron protection for an extended period of time. Successful completion of a Perioperative Nursing course or equivalent experience required. IV initiation (PVAD) and Infusion therapy Competency. RSI module and exam preferred. Experience assisting intubation, extubating, airway management within RN scope. Preferred Qualifications:
Membership with ORNAC. 1 year experience in ambulatory care/outpatient clinic within the last five years CVAD Competencies. ACLS. Additional training in Rapid Sequence Intubation, airway management. NRP. Experience with c sections in an intraoperative role - scrub or circulate within last 2 years. Breastfeeding education or equivalent experience. Experience in rural or ambulatory outpatient preferred.
