Key Responsibilities:
The Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of Nursing Care under the direction of the Director of Care (DOC) and Nurse Supervisors. They direct resident care services and support Resident-Centered care.
The Registered Nurse (RN) supports the policies, procedures and practices that promote quality of life for residents and a safe environment for residents and staff. The Registered Nurse (RN) provides quality nursing care and, through professional leadership, facilitates the delivery of high-quality client-centered care by:
 Coordinating resident care and managing resident health and behaviors on their shift
 Supporting residents' independence, dignity, social, emotional and cultural well-being
 Supporting 147 Elder's REST Philosophy of Care, mission, vision and value statement and helping develop and operationalize the department goals
 Liaising with families
 Assuming responsibility for facility operation in the absence of senior management team
 Maintaining compliance with legislative requirements and professional standards
 Acting as a clinical resource for non-registered staff as necessary and providing counseling, teaching and support as required
 Monitoring adherence to safety policies and procedures and promoting safe work practices
 Ensuring all reported injuries and illnesses are treated promptly and documented according to policy
 Remaining current with best practices
 Developing, maintaining, evaluating and updating a plan of care for residents, following assessment and in collaboration with the resident and family to maintain optimal levels of functioning and independence
 Maintaining continuity of care with other providers
 Lead the Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) in assessing and manage unstable and unpredictable residents with complex nursing needs
 Managing daily staffing issues/coverage i.e. replacing sick calls, adding staff for increased needs of residents etc.
Education:
 Certificate of completion form the College of Nurses of Ontario
 BScN or BN preferred
 Certificate in Gerontological Nursing preferred
 Annual ORCA Tutorials
 Annual CPR recertification
