The Mood & Anxiety Ambulatory Service (MAAS) is seeking a full-time, permanent Registered Nurse (RN) to join the interprofessional team. The primary focus of this role will be to provide psychotherapy to clients experiencing mood and anxiety disorders, concurrent disorders, and trauma-related conditions. Care will be delivered through both individual and group treatment modalities, using evidence-based approaches such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT).
In addition to psychotherapy, the RN will provide occasional clinical nursing support, including administering injections, taking vital signs, conducting behavioural observations, and completing mental status and physical assessments. The RN will also support medication monitoring, crisis intervention, and risk management planning when required. Working in collaboration with psychiatrists, social workers, psychologists, and other clinicians across CAMH, the nurse will play a central role in client care. The role offers opportunities to supervise students, contribute to program development, and engage in research and educational initiatives in alignment with CAMH's mission of teaching and discovery. Services are delivered at the Queen Street site and may include both in-person and virtual care.
Job Requirements
The successful candidate will be a Registered Nurse in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario and authorized to perform the controlled act of psychotherapy. A minimum of three years of post-graduate clinical experience in mental health and addictions, including direct psychotherapy, is preferred. Candidates should be competent in providing psychotherapy, with preference given to those with formal training and experience in DBT, CBT or ACT. Experience working with individuals with mood and anxiety disorders, PTSD and trauma, and concurrent disorders is essential.
A baccalaureate degree in nursing is required, and certification in Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing through the Canadian Nurses Association is considered an asset. Current CPR (BCLS) certification is also required. The role requires strong knowledge of emergency psychiatry, crisis intervention, recovery principles, and complex case coordination. Excellent communication, interpersonal, leadership, and organizational skills are essential, as is the ability to work effectively within a diverse and collaborative team. Experience working with clients from diverse backgrounds and a commitment to recovery-oriented, client-centered care are also required. Bilingualism in French and English or proficiency in a second language will be considered an additional asset.
Additional Information
Flexibility in work hours, including availability for daytime, evening, or weekend shifts, may be required. For candidates not yet in independent practice and requiring supervision, CAMH may arrange a formal supervisory relationship within the program as a condition of hire.
