Pearson College UWC is recruiting for an outstanding Registered Nurse (RN)

Position Summary:



The Registered Nurse (RN) supports the physical, emotional, and mental wellbeing of our diverse students. This role works closely with students, staff, houseparents, and local health professionals to provide clinical expertise, emergency response, health education, and ongoing support for students navigating both common and complex health challenges while they are away from home.

The position requires a high degree of autonomy, cultural sensitivity, and the ability to manage a wide range of responsibilities, from day-to-day health concerns to longer-term care coordination and public health initiatives. The RN will also contribute to the development of health-related policies, collaborate across departments, and help ensure a safe and supportive environment for students to thrive academically and personally.

Major Responsibilities:



Assess and evaluate the health concerns of students, providing comprehensive care within the scope of practice. Develop, implement, and monitor individualized nursing care plans for students with acute, chronic, or complex medical conditions. Administer medications and treatments, including injections, wound care, and chronic condition management, according to physician orders and nursing protocols. Make independent clinical decisions and referrals to physicians, mental health professionals, or specialists when necessary. Respond to medical emergencies, lead onsite triage and stabilization, coordinate with emergency services, and oversee post-incident care. Collaborate with the regional Health Authority to organize and administer immunization clinics and public health initiatives. Monitor and implement infectious disease control protocols, including outbreak management and vaccination compliance. Provide leadership in student wellness by advising on health-related risks, policies, and program development. Support and manage return-to-learn or return-to-play protocols for students recovering from injuries or illnesses, including concussions. Work collaboratively with Houseparents, Advisors, Faculty, and the Wellness Team to support holistic student care. Communicate with parents/guardians to provide updates and guidance on student health matters. Maintain accurate, confidential, and legally compliant health records, including incident and accident reporting. Ensure proper storage, administration, and disposal of medications and medical supplies in compliance with regulations. Participate in reviewing and updating school health policies in alignment with health legislation and best practices. Build strong, trusting relationships with students from diverse cultural backgrounds, providing culturally sensitive care. Work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team Perform other duties as assigned to support the overall operations of the College.

Education, Skills, and Experience:



Current registration with B.C. College of Nursing Professionals (BCCNP) as a registered nurse. Current CPR First Aid Certificate Clinical nursing experience, and school nurse or ER experience an asset Experience working in an international health care setting and/or working with people from diverse cultural backgrounds Experience working with adolescents in a Health Care and/or Mental Health Care setting A sensitive and empathic approach to communicating with students, family members and the adult community Enthusiastic, energetic, a self-starter with the ability to work independently. Ability to be tactful, demonstrate excellent judgment, and work as a positive and collaborative team member 5 years of experience in nursing preferably. Emergency and mental health experience is considered an asset Class 5 Driver's License, Class 4 preferred

Compensation & Organization



This is a part-time position of 20 hours per week located at Pearson College UWC in Metchosin, approximately 40 minutes from downtown Victoria, BC. Compensation ranges from $47.00 to $55.00 per hour, plus a comprehensive benefits package that includes vacation pay with additional paid time off during Christmas, extended health & dental coverage, and on-site meal program.
