ROLE
As a Registered Nurse working within MAHC's Medical/Surgical unit you will utilize your skills and expertise to provide clinical leadership and contribute to the function of the nursing unit, ensuring that optimum and quality patient-focused care is provided at all times.

• Co-ordinate all activities related to the care of patients on the unit in an organized and proficient manner to their scope of practice.
• Take and give report at appropriate times.
• Provides competent nursing care to all assigned patients
• Participates in discharge planning/multidisciplinary rounds, family conferences.
• Assists other staff with their assignments, as necessary
• Ensures physicians' orders are carried out accurately and appropriately; responsible for safe administration of medications and treatments.
• Assist physicians with procedures as necessary
• Admissions/discharges and transfers to/from the department.
• Responsible for all charting of patients under his/her care.
• Initiate and assist in Code Blue & Rapid Response procedure.
• Participates in discharge planning/multidisciplinary/bullet rounds.
• Maintains knowledge and awareness of current Geriatric Nursing practices and demonstrates related skills.
• Responsible for assessing and reporting changes in patient condition the patient's physician and charge person when necessary.
• Assist in the Orientation of new staff members.
• Provides education to patients and/or family in conjunction with physiotherapy and occupational therapy and other staff members
• Provides care to Rehab/Palliative patients, i.e. administration of medication, a.m. care, assist with occupational therapy and physiotherapy, etc.
• Ensures adequate supplies are available and notifies charge person when equipment may need replacing or re-ordered.

REQUIRED EDUCATION & CERTIFICATION(S)

• Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario in good standing
• Recognized nursing certifications and credentials (for example: Emergency Nursing, Obstetrical Nursing, Critical Care Nursing, ACLS, etc.) an asset
• Current CPR - HCP (Health Care Provider)

REQUIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE(S)

• Visible and approachable for patients, families and staff with ongoing communication regarding patient monitoring and evaluation of activities.
• Excellent client counselling, interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to negotiate and effectively interact as a team member in an interdisciplinary setting.
• Effective leader, organizer and planner capable of making timely decisions and exercising tact and good judgement.
• Effective time management skills.
• Current knowledge of drugs, treatments and their interactions.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Location: Huntsville District Memorial Hospital (HDMH) located in Huntsville. Applicants must reside within 125km of one of our hospital campuses or be willing to relocate prior to starting. *Exceptions will be considered on a case-by-case basis
Hours of Work: Must be available to work shifts including days, evenings, nights and weekends. Shifts and hours may change according to departmental requirements per the collective agreement.
