The Occupational Health Nurse (OHN) in the Workplace Health & Safety (WHS) department is a professional position reporting to the WHS Services Manager/Assistant Head Nurse/Team Lead. The position works with a high degree of independence and in collaboration with the WHS Leadership Team to plan and implement programs. The role of an Occupational Health Nurse is quite diverse. It involves patient care as well as extensive administrative responsibilities. The position will interpret client needs, assess requirements and identify solutions to nonstandard issues and requests, will counsel and educate clients on health and wellness in the workplace and provide input into policy and process development. The position is also responsible to: Provide clinical support, advice, direction, and input into the needs of fellow staff and managers in relation to health promotion, safety and hygiene, and disease/injury prevention programs. Act as healthcare provider for AHS staff and representatives. Ensuring the highly sensitive confidential health information of fellow staff and AHS representatives. Occupational immunizations. Occupational health assessments/ monitoring. Blood/ Body Fluid Exposure (BBFE) follow up. Communicable Disease Exposure (CDE) follow-up and investigation. WCB Case Management. Employee/Family Assistance Program awareness. Noise Management Program. Hazard assessment and control. Skin integrity/Hand Health investigations. Respiratory fit testing. Ergonomic review. Other consultation/duties as required. Measure and monitor outcomes of current WHS programs and new initiatives. Consulting with and referring to appropriate partners and specialists (e.g. IPC, Public Health). Informal leadership and orientation provided to other OHNs and teammates.

As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit holders will be paid $39.58 - $54.16 per hour. Upon obtaining a full licence, the rate of pay will be adjusted to the applicable Registered Nurse rate in accordance with UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii) as applicable.
