Position Summary



The infection control nurse provides person centered personal care to residents to promote the comfort, safety, and quality of life of the residents of Finlandia Nursing
Home/Finlandia Village. The position is responsible for the development and maintenance of the IPAC (Infection prevention and control) and Occupational Health program for the Village and will maintain all MOHLTC guidelines according to the LTC (Long Term Care) Act therein.

Some Key Responsibilities



IPAC program lead; development and maintenance of the IPAC program for the Village and will maintain all MOHLTC guidelines according to the LTC Act therein

Sharing and disseminating IPAC knowledge and expertise with employees, residents and their families and the community

Integrating surveillance (and/or testing) findings into formal plans for the IPAC in the home; developing and implementing IPAC policies and procedures based on currently accepted best practices and legislative and/or program requirements

Providing knowledge and advice regarding the value and role of the IPAC function;

Supporting residents, families, administration, committees/communities of practice in IPAC practices and knowledge

Participating in development/review of occupational health policies and procedures related to IPAC;

Engage in risk management behaviours

Developing and reviewing the effectiveness of the IPAC program annually;

Communicating and providing resources and other supports to ensure appropriate practices are followed;

Participating in local IPAC Community of Practice and/or IPAC Hub

Maintains and revises clinical and administrative records

Manage team members' occupational health regarding staying at work, return to work, and accommodation needs as per Human Rights, WSIB (Workplace Safety and Insurance Board) and legislation

Participate in workers' health maintenance programs through various activities, such as periodic assessments and immunizations

Identify health needs for workers, develop objectives, and implement programs in health promotion, maintenance, and rehabilitation

Participate in Wellness Programs and member of the Joint Occupational Health and Safety Committee

Monitors adherence to safety policies and procedures of all employees, students and volunteers and promotes safe work practices for self and others

Other duties as required

Qualifications



Registered Nurse with a current Certificate of Competence from the College of Nurses of Ontario

Infection Prevention and Control Certificate or another certificate recognized by IPAC Canada

Certified Occupational Health Nurse designation preferred

Current CIC or CIC-LTC Certification or ability to attain certification within one year of start

One to three years nursing experience in a Long-Term Care or other health care facility

IPAC experience an asset

Basic, intermediate, and advanced principles and practices in IPAC;

Outbreak prevention and management;

Appropriate use of personal protective equipment;

Respiratory hygiene and hand hygiene

Maintains a working knowledge of current or best practices for the delivery of care and services based on research and evidence-based studies;

Is knowledgeable of employee's responsibilities in Occupational Health and Safety;

Working knowledge of computers, their application and related software

Integrate new concepts/knowledge /skill into practice

Accept responsibility for work-related professional development and actively seek out and makes use of opportunities for self-development

CPR Certificate

Gentle Persuasive Approach (GPA) Certificate is considered an asset

Finnish speaking skill is considered an asset

An acceptable Police Vulnerable Sector Check verified within the past six months

2-step TB test within the past six months
