What You'll Do
Reporting to the Director of Nursing, the Registered Nurse in Charge (RNIC), also known as the Charge Nurse, provides clinical support to nursing staff and acts as the RN in the building as per legislative standards. The Charge Nurse supports as the first point of clinical contact above the unit RPN for clinical concerns, providing guidance to nursing staff and PSWs as required. The Charge Nurse collaborates with the Clinical Care Coordinator and completes regular rounding and documentation review while on shift. The Charge Nurse is the first backup for unit nursing shortages. The Charge Nurse works a schedule according to their dedicated line, including days, evenings, and weekends.
What We're Looking For
Education & Experience

  • Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO)
  • Bachelor's degree in nursing (BSN)
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience as a registered nurse and a minimum of one (1) year in geriatric nursing or a long-term care setting
Skills & Abilities
  • Competent and skilled with phlebotomy and IV management
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work inter-dependently
  • Demonstrate initiative, flexibility, good organizational skills and good supervisory skills
  • Comfortable and highly skilled with all documentation, including documentation of risk management.
  • Resident/family oriented and able to act as an advocate of resident rights
  • Strong leadership skills
  • Must be knowledgeable in emergency measures, be prepared to implement and respond within time frames
  • Crisis-intervention skills
  • Good physical and mental health and a professional attitude
  • Ability to travel with methods of transportation available
  • Clear criminal background check including vulnerable sector screening
  • Two-step TB skin test
