The GEM Nurse will be a member of the inter-professional team providing assessment, care, and treatment in the Emergency Department. In collaboration with other team members, the GEM nurse will:
Provide consultation to health care professionals and elderly patients regarding geriatric health issues;
Assess, plan, implement and evaluate the care of elderly persons with complex geriatric health problems;
Collaborate with health care professionals to develop and implement a comprehensive plan of care;
Assess the coping strengths of the elderly person and their family/support and plan intervention and/or intervene to assist the elderly person in achieving optimal independent functioning.
Qualifications and Experience
Registered and in good standing with the College of Nurses (CNO) as a Registered Nurse.
Baccalaureate degree in Nursing is required.
Master's Degree in Nursing, Education or Health Administration preferred.
Current BCLS.
Current ACLS or commitment to complete within three (3) months of hire.
Management of Aggressive Behaviour or equivalent preferred.
Certificate in Gentle Persuasive Approach preferred.
Recent (within two years) experience in emergency department, community health care preferred.
Working knowledge of community resources, HCCSS, and RGP
Experience in specialized geriatric programs is an asset.
Additional training and/or experience in Gerontology is required

Hours of Work:
In order to provide the necessary patient care, our operations run 24/7. There is the expectation that you are available to work weekdays, weekends and all shifts (days, nights, 12 hours).
