Working under the supervision of the FSCC Manager of Addictions and Mental Health, the role of the Registered Psychiatric Nurse (RPN) / Registered Nurse (RN) with Provincial Corrections Mental Health provides an exciting opportunity to deliver trauma-informed services to complex clients within a secure, multi-disciplined environment. The stability offered by the correctional setting creates a unique window of motivation and engagement for many clients, allowing Mental Health Professionals to deliver meaningful and effective interventions to a client population most in need of mental health support. In consultation with a supportive multidisciplinary team consisting of Social Workers, Nurse Practitioners, Psychologists, Psychiatrists, Pharmacists, and Correctional Officers, the Provincial Mental Health RPN/RN plays a key role in developing and implementing individualized care plans that address both the acute and long-term Mental health needs of a manageable caseload of patients. The successful candidate's primary responsibility within this particular RPN/RN role is to provide comprehensive psychiatric nursing care which utilizes the therapeutic counseling aspects of the RPN/RN's training and scope. These areas will include (but are not limited to): Mental Status Assessments; Crisis Intervention; and Therapeutic Trauma Informed Counseling. Preference will be given to candidates with training and experience utilizing evidence-based counseling modalities such as: CBT, Solution-Focused Brief Therapy, and/or Motivational Interviewing. The FSCC Mental Health Team is committed to staff wellness and maintaining a healthy team culture. The ideal RN/RPN for this role is a collaborative team-player possessing strong interpersonal and emotional regulation skills in building therapeutic relationships with clients and collegial relationships with team members.

As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit holders will be paid $39.58 - $54.16 per hour. Upon obtaining a full licence, the rate of pay will be adjusted to the applicable Registered Nurse rate in accordance with UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii) as applicable.
