Reporting to the Manager, the ECT Program Nurse assists in the coordination and safe delivery of electroconvulsive therapy to both inpatients and outpatients. The successful candidate will be expected to provide education and support to the various patient groups and their families, to welcome and engage patients and families/caregivers referred to the program, to effectively address and alleviate anxiety and apprehension in a variety of patient and family/care-giver populations. The ECT Program Nurse has a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. The ECT Program Nurse will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS. The ECT Program Nurse will be expected to assist in the pre-treatment evaluation of all patients. In addition, the ECT program nurse must ensure ECT equipment (including treatment and emergency medications) are available in the treatment area, set up the treatment area, assist in the treatment area as per professional nursing standards, hospital and program policies and procedures and in accordance with all legal and ethical standards. The ECT program nurse is expected to provide emergency interventions as required and to be cross-trained/competent with the ECT Recovery Nurse responsibilities. The ECT Program Nurse is expected to have familiarity with psychiatric disorders that would require ECT. The ability to collaborate with patients, families, nurses, physicians and other health care professionals in the provision of care is essential. Upon being entered into the register of Registered Nurses, the rate of pay shall be adjusted to the rate of pay applicable to a Registered Nurse in accordance with AHS/UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii) as applicable.
