Job Summary

We are seeking a dedicated and highly skilled Registered Nurse to join our Maternity Department. The ideal candidate will possess a comprehensive understanding of obstetric and neonatal care, demonstrating compassion, professionalism, and a commitment to providing exceptional patient-centered services. This role involves delivering high-quality nursing care to expectant mothers, newborns, and their families while adhering to hospital protocols and standards. Duties

Provide comprehensive prenatal, labor, delivery, postpartum, and neonatal nursing care in accordance with established protocols and best practices. Monitor vital signs, perform physical examinations, and assess patient conditions regularly to identify any deviations or complications promptly. Administer medications and treatments such as IV infusions, suturing, pain management, and other interventions with precision and adherence to safety standards. Utilize electronic health record (EHR) systems like Epic or Cerner for accurate documentation of patient information, medical history, assessments, and care plans. Educate expectant mothers and their families on childbirth processes, postpartum care, breastfeeding techniques, and newborn care. Collaborate with obstetricians, neonatologists, anesthesiologists, and other healthcare professionals to develop individualized care plans. Ensure aseptic techniques during procedures such as catheterization or sterile dressing changes to prevent infections. Respond effectively to emergencies including obstetric complications or neonatal distress by applying advanced life support skills and trauma medicine principles. Maintain compliance with HIPAA regulations to safeguard patient privacy and confidentiality at all times. Participate in quality improvement initiatives aligned with NCQA standards to enhance patient safety and care outcomes. Support discharge planning by providing education on postpartum recovery, infant care, and follow-up appointments. Assist with special procedures such as ultrasound-guided interventions or neonatal ventilator management as needed. Engage in ongoing professional development through training in areas like infectious disease care, trauma medicine, or pediatric nursing to stay current with evolving practices.

Experience

Candidates should possess extensive clinical experience in maternity nursing within hospital settings or specialized obstetric units. Prior exposure to Level I or Level II trauma centers is advantageous. Experience working with diverse patient populations--including high-risk pregnancies--will be highly valued. Proficiency in using EMR/EHR systems such as Epic or Cerner is essential for accurate documentation. A background in critical care environments like ICU or emergency room experience enhances the ability to manage complex cases effectively. Familiarity with advanced procedures including fetal monitoring, sonography interpretation, or neonatal intensive care (PICU) experience is preferred. Candidates with training in pain management techniques--such as epidural administration--and skills in performing sterile procedures like suturing or phlebotomy are encouraged to apply. Long-term care experience including working in assisted living facilities or nursing homes provides additional insight into comprehensive patient needs beyond acute settings.
