Your Opportunity:
The Active Treatment Center (ATC) Operating Room is comprised of 10 theatres focused primarily on Ophthalmology & Otolaryngology. The ATCOR is a busy and fast paced environment and does over 15,000 cases a year. As a member of a multidisciplinary team, the experienced perioperative RN has focused skills in a variety of services which would include: Ophthalmology and Otolaryngology. Both scheduled (elective) and unscheduled (emergency) surgeries are performed, and the position requires the incumbent to do on-call shifts. The RN is responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of care during the perioperative patient experience in accordance with hospital policies and standards. It is expected that the incumbent be able to provide leadership in clinical practice through management of patient care, anticipate needs of the patient including ensuring equipment and supplies are available for the required cases. The RN assumes responsibility and acts as a resource for staff skill development and support. As a leader and role model, the individual must demonstrate a professional, positive attitude, excellent communication, problem solving and interpersonal skills when performing scrubbing and circulating duties in the surgical environment. It is expected that the RN be able to contribute to quality initiatives and promote a professional work environment at all times.

As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit holders will be paid $39.58 - $54.16 per hour. Upon obtaining a full licence, the rate of pay will be adjusted to the applicable Registered Nurse rate in accordance with UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii) as applicable.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) certification. If you have not practiced as a Registered Psychiatric Nurse within the past five (5) years, completion of the following free courses is required prior to employment: CRNA Medication Management (Chapters 1-4): https://connect.nurses.ab.ca/home/learning-and-development/learning-modules NextGenU Health Assessment Resources Certification: https://courses.nextgenu.org/course/view.php?id=271.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Current registration with the College & Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current CPR (BCLS-HCP). Perioperative Certificate from an approved School of Nursing. Minimum of 5 years current general operating room experience in a high acuity OR with 1 - 2 years specific experience in Ophthalmology and Otolaryngology. Experience in a team leader role. Experience in a charge nurse/ leadership role. Ability to collaborate within the expectations of an integrated team. Ability to demonstrate advanced problem-solving skills integrating critical thinking and good judgment. Ability to demonstrate communications skills that promote respect and a positive team environment. The incumbent should have effective interpersonal and written communication skills.
