Job Description

The Registered Nurse (RN) participates in nursing assessments and interventions, care planning, implementing prescribed treatments, administering medications, evaluating treatments, and monitoring/documenting treatment progress and patient/resident response. Acting as an advocate, coordinator and liaison for the patient/resident, the RN identifies needs and sets priorities in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team. The RN facilitates patient/resident and family education and discharge planning, and may be required to act in a charge nurse capacity. The RN is responsible for the provision of care in accordance with established standards, and the Mission, Vision, Values, policies and procedures of Covenant Health. This position is covered by the terms and conditions of the UNA Collective Agreement.

Required Qualifications:

Graduate of a RN program or recognized equivalent required. Active registration with the College and Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CARNA) required. Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider (Level C) required. Additional Required Qualifications:

Experience in mental health (Geriatric Psychiatry) or related settings required. Flexibility to work all shifts, including nights, weekends, and statutory holidays. Ability to provide leadership and function as a team member. Ability to work independently. Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary and patient-centered team environment. Strong assessment skills to recognize and respond appropriately to changes in patients' behavior. Ability to recognize, assess and act upon patients in acute mental health crisis, such as delirium. Strong communication skills and ability to adapt communication style to meet patient needs. Good organizational and conflict resolution skills. Excellent time management skills. Proven dependability. Ability to be objective in decision making.

Preferred Qualifications:

Recent patient care experience in geriatric psychiatry or with dementia patients/residents in acute or continuing care.Current Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NCI) training. IV certification and experience with Alaris pump systems. Experience working with Connect Care.
