Your Opportunity:
The Sexual Assault Response Team (SART) nurse is responsible for performing comprehensive assessments, medical-legal examinations and providing patient treatment/care and follow-up for adolescents and adults who have experienced a sexual assault within the previous 7 days. This includes collecting forensic evidence, liaising with law enforcement, and the expectation of testifying in court. Specialized knowledge of sexual reproductive health and sexual assault care with strong clinical/counselling skills is required, including STBBI testing and treatment, monitoring/interpreting lab results, contraception/emergency contraception, and pelvic exams. The SART nurse practices trauma informed care, is experienced working with marginalized populations, and is adept at communicating when complicated client dynamics are present. The SART nurse works independently while collaborating effectively within a multi-disciplinary team such as emergency department physicians/nursing staff, medical officers of health, law enforcement, and community agencies. This position has scheduled shifts as well as an on-call rotation with a high volume of call-backs. The position is part of the 24 hour a day/7 day a week/365 days a year staffing for the SART program across the Edmonton Zone. The work requires driving in all seasonal conditions at all hours of the day or night. Lifting/carrying equipment weighing 25 pounds (~ 12 kgs) in/out of a vehicle and Emergency Departments is required. This work exposes the incumbent to vicarious trauma. As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit Holders shall be paid $39.58 /hour - $54.16/hour. Upon being entered into the register of Registered Nurses, the rate of pay shall be adjusted to the rate of pay applicable to a Registered Nurse in accordance with AHS/UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii) as applicable.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). If you have not practiced as a Registered Nurse within the last five (5) years, completion of the following free courses is required: CRNA Medication Management - Chapters 1 - 4 (https://connect.nurses.ab.ca/home/%2Flearning-and-development%2Flearning-modules%2F) and the NextGenU Health Assessment Resources Certification (https://courses.nextgenu.org/course/view.php?id=271#section-0)

Additional Required Qualifications:

Minimum 3-5 years recent relevant nursing experience. If less than 5 years, min 1 year of charge nurse experience required As a bona fide occupational requirement, and under Section 11 of the Alberta Human Rights Act, only female applicants will be considered. We encourage all female candidates to self- identify in the pre-screening questions on the application Strong face to face assessment and communication skills, including ability to respond to patients in emergency room settings who have experienced a recent traumatic event(s) Self-directed, able to think critically through complex and rapidly changing situations using strong nursing clinical judgement skills and adhering to program standards without directed guidance in high pressure situations Recent experience working with patients who have experienced trauma, with diverse communities, groups and/or organizations (ethno-cultural, equity-setting, racialized, faith-based, 2SLGBTQS+, marginalized, persons with disabilities, populations who have experienced trauma and persons across all age groups, etc.) Ability to work overtime based on caseload, carry up to 25lbs of equipment; pack, push, pull, transport heavy and/or awkward supplies; walk 3-4 blocks, climb 3-4 flights of stairs; carry out awkward, repetitive movements for an entire 7.75-hour shift, including sitting, standing, and/or bending for long periods of time Driver's license, business insurance, reliable vehicle and ability to drive in all weather condition

Preferred Qualifications:

Baccalaureate degree in Nursing (BN), Bachelor of Science in Nursing BScN) strongly preferred Charge nurse experience SANE certification from an approved institution (e.g. International Association of Forensic Nurses) Recent knowledge/experience in STBBI testing and treatment, sexual reproductive health, or women's health, phlebotomy, pelvic exams, swab collection (genital, throat, and rectal), immunizations Experience with community-based services, law enforcement, or judicial system
