An exciting opportunity awaits a Registered Nurse or Registered Psychiatric Nurse who enjoys working with children and adolescents. This position within Tertiary Services under the Children, Youth & Family - Addiction & Mental Health umbrella, is a regularized relief position requiring flexibility across 5 programs at the Glenrose Rehabilitation Hospital and the Royal Alexandra Hospital. In addition to providing safe, ethical nursing care to the pediatric/adolescent patient, the Registered Nurse/Registered Psychiatric Nurse integrates knowledge, skills and ability to ensure ongoing assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of care through the use of an Integrated Plan of Care (IPoC). Duties include crisis intervention and de-escalation, assessment, medication administration, diagnostic and treatment-based nursing care. Reporting to the Care Manager and as a member of the interdisciplinary team, the Registered Nurse/Registered Psychiatric Nurse facilitates collaborative planning with the family and patient central to the decision-making process. Responsibilities include participation in activities and initiatives aimed at promoting, maintaining, and improving quality and safety for patients, families, and caregivers along with advocating for children in schools and triaging for treatment, as well as parent/school teaching in illness, medications, and funding requirements. The incumbent is reliable and maintains a high degree of professionalism. Note: This is a Regularized Relief Position and therefore requires flexibility to the provided rotation in order to allow for the expected coverage for pre-booked vacation and education relief, etc. across the 5 GRH/RAH Tertiary programs with CYFAMH.

As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit Holders shall be paid $39.58 /hour - $54.16/hour. Upon being entered into the register of Registered Nurses, the rate of pay shall be adjusted to the rate of pay applicable to a Registered Nurse in accordance with AHS/UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii) as applicable.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). If you have not practiced as a Registered Nurse within the last five (5) years, completion of the following free courses is required: CRNA Medication Management - Chapters 1 - 4 (https://connect.nurses.ab.ca/home/%2Flearning-and-development%2Flearning-modules%2F) and the NextGenU Health Assessment Resources Certification (https://courses.nextgenu.org/course/view.php?id=271#section-0)

Additional Required Qualifications:

Experience working with children and families required. Minimum 1 year inpatient psychiatry experience required. Physically able to lift 11 kg, climb 3 flights of stairs, participate in gym activities and escort children to the seclusion room or use physical restraints when required. This position works with children and youth who are experiencing significant mental health and/or behavior issues who may demonstrate dysregulation, loud voices, anger and/or anxiety. This position has transitioned to Recovery Alberta effective September 1, 2024. Preferred Qualifications:

Baccalaureate degree in nursing preferred; however, skills and experience relevant to nursing practice in community sector will be considered. Current Non-Violent Crisis Intervention or Effective De-Escalation Techniques training preferred. Experience with insertion and maintenance of nasogastric feeding tubes preferred. Experience with PICC line maintenance preferred. 2 years current Pediatric/Adolescent Mental Health nursing, preferred.
