Your Opportunity:

The Stollery Philip C. Etches Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) located at the Royal Alexandra Hospital, is a 69-funded-bed unit that accepts babies from all over Northern Alberta, Yukon, Northwest Territories, and Nunavut and is characterized by high acuity and high activity. The Registered Nurse is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating sick and critically ill neonates on levels II and III. The program utilizes a Family Centered Care philosophy within an interdisciplinary team model and is the only NIDCAP (Newborn Individualized Developmental Care and Assessment Program) training center in Canada. The Program has a dedicated Resuscitation and Stabilization Team (RST) who respond to the High-Risk case room at the Lois Hole Hospital. The Program is involved in several quality improvement initiatives. The successful candidate will perform a variety of nursing duties and work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team, patients and their families to achieve positive patient outcomes and improvements in quality care. According to NICU and hospital guidelines, nursing care will be administered safely and effectively. As a Registered Nurse, you will provide various nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and wellbeing. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem-solving and decision-making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe and high-quality Patient and Family Centered Care, reflecting the shared vision and values of Alberta Health Services (AHS).

Description:

Upon being entered into the register of Registered Nurses, the rate of pay shall be adjusted to the rate of pay applicable to a Registered Nurse in accordance with AHS/UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii) as applicable. Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). If you have not practiced as a Registered Nurse within the last five (5) years, completion of the following free courses is required: CRNA Medication Management - Chapters 1 - 4 (https://connect.nurses.ab.ca/home/%2Flearning-and-development%2Flearning-modules%2F) and the NextGenU Health Assessment Resources Certification (https://courses.nextgenu.org/course/view.php?id=271#section-0) Additional Required Qualifications:

Basic computer literacy is required. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and a strong Family Centered Care philosophy are required. Note this position may be eligible for an educational opportunity: 3-week classes beginning January 15th, 2024. The incumbent will be trained to have a thorough understanding of the care of the level 2 and level 3 neonatal patients. Preferred Qualifications:

A BScN is preferred. Previous NICU experience is an asset. Recent acute care experience, post-partum/mother-baby care, or pediatrics experience is preferred.
