Your Opportunity:
We have an exciting position in our program for a Registered Nurse (RN). A Designated Float RN supports the staffing needs of Alberta Kidney Care North for vacant shifts due to planned or unplanned staff absences. You will support the relief staffing needs at 3 sites: a designated home site and two designated secondary sites. Flexibility to meet the ever-changing relief needs of the program is essential in this position. The RN works to provide hemodialysis treatment to patients in collaboration with the multidisciplinary health care team. The RN delivers comprehensive patient and family centered care to acute and chronic renal patients. The RN practices within the philosophy and guidelines of the Alberta Kidney Care - North Program (AKC - North) to provide leadership, critical thinking, clinical judgment, assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care for the purpose of promoting, maintaining, or restoring health, preventing illness, injury, and disability to the renal patient. The RN practices nursing care according to Hemodialysis Nursing Specialty Scope of Practice, regulating body, clinical policies and nursing standards. The RN demonstrates a professional demeanor, pursues regular professional development opportunities and maintains professional designation. The RN may assume unit leadership and charge responsibilities to support all levels of the multidisciplinary team as per unit manager direction.
Description:
As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit holders will be paid $39.58 - $54.16 per hour. Upon obtaining a full licence, the rate of pay will be adjusted to the applicable Registered Nurse rate in accordance with UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii) as applicable.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) certification. If you have not practiced as a Registered Nurse within the last five (5) years, you must complete the following free courses: CRNA Medication Management (Chapters 1-4), available at https://connect.nurses.ab.ca/home/learning-and-development/learning-modules/ and the NextGenU Health Assessment Resources Certification, available at https://courses.nextgenu.org/course/view.php?id=271.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Demonstrated knowledge of case management. Demonstrated effective time-management and organizational skills. Demonstrated critical thinking, problem solving, and decision-making abilities. Must be able to provide direction to other health care workers. Basic computer skills required. Ability to work independently and in conjunction with other team members. Demonstrated ability to adapt quickly to a changing and fluctuating workload. Demonstrated initiative, accountability, interpersonal and communication skills. Must be able to lift 40lbs (18kg). Must have and be able to perform fine motor skills. The AKC-N program requires candidates to complete/pass hemodialysis training. Hemodialysis training is held in Edmonton or Red Deer depending on availability. Hemodialysis orientation will take 6 weeks: 4 weeks on-unit training and 2 weeks of buddy shifts (or equivalent hours). A passing mark of 80% on the final exam and satisfactory performance during the clinical component is required to move on to buddy shifts. Required to attend 1-day mandatory in-person post-orientation (3 Months post) for Edmonton zone employees and via Zoom for employees outside of the Edmonton zone.

Preferred Qualifications:

Candidates with previous experience will be required to complete hemodialysis training as per manager/educator discretion. Preference will be given to candidates with minimum 1-year medical-surgical nursing experience within the last 2 years. Recent experience in acute and chronic hemodialysis, nephrology nursing.
