Position Summary:

Reporting to the Patient Care Manager \xe2\x80\x93 Perioperative Care, the nurse collaborates with the inter-professional team to provide nursing practice that is consistent with professional standards and the ethical framework as outlined by the College of Nurses of Ontario. Day Surgery nursing care includes: preoperative preparation and care of surgical patients (elective and urgent/emergent),knowledge of different surgeries and the relevant preparation, review of patient\xe2\x80\x99s health assessment, medication reconciliation and identification of issues potentially impacting the patient\xe2\x80\x99s surgical procedure. The candidate will provide pre and post-operative care to elective and urgent/emergent surgery patients with exemplary post-op teaching involving the patient and family

Qualifications:

  • Candidate will be a graduate of a recognized College or School of Nursing and preferably hold a Baccalaureate degree.
  • Current certification or eligibility for Certification of Competence from the College of Nurses of Ontario is required
  • Minimum of 5 - 7 years of acute post-operative surgical nursing care experience is required
  • Previous Day Surgery experience is preferred
  • Demonstrated consistency in approachability, clinical excellence, patience, respectful interactions and diplomacy
  • Highly developed critical thinking and reasoning skills for problem-solving and managing emergency situations
  • Ability to effectively prioritize patient and family needs in conjunction with the interprofessional care team
  • Professional communication skills both oral and written
  • Commitment to life-long learning and evidence of on-going professional development
  • Competence with Meditech and computer documentation an asset
  • Satisfactory attendance and performance required
