Position Summary

The Day Surgery/Endoscopy programs are dedicated to providing safe client care utilizing an effective and efficient team approach. The Registered Nurse in the Day Surgery Program will possess the theoretical knowledge and technical skills required to assess and care for both pre-operative and post-operative patients. Additionally, the incumbent of this position will demonstrate knowledge, skill and judgement in caring for the endoscopic patient post procedure.

Qualifications

• Must hold a current general class certificate of competence to practice as a Registered Nurse in Ontario.
• Qualified to practice within current CNO RN Scope of Practice.
• Current BCLS.
• Post Anesthetic Nursing Certificate Critical Care Certificate Mandatory
• 2 years recent experience in Recovery Room Nursing Mandatory
• Successful completion of Physical Assessment Course.
• Minimum five years nursing experience.
• Minimum two years recent experience in a surgical setting mandatory.
• Excellent work performance and attendance record Mandatory
• IV certified.
• BScN or equivalent of education and experience will be considered
• ACLS preferred.
• Must be willing to participate in continuing education programs.
• Demonstrated organizational skills with attention to detail while performing patient care in a fast paced environment.
• Demonstrates Leadership ability and ability to work well with colleagues
• Demonstrated use of the nursing process and critical thinking to identify perianesthesia/post-operative risk factors.
• Commitment to providing high quality, individualized patient care.
• Ability to make independent decisions and initiate appropriate action based on patient focused best practice guidelines.
• Ability to form good working relationships with all members of the healthcare team.
• Essential duties require ability to lift and move patients, pushing, pulling, bending and stooping.
• Demonstrated proficiency in written and verbal communication skills in relation to working with patients across the care continuum.
• The successful candidate will have a proven commitment to professional development as well as to the Mission and Vision of the Hospital.
• Demonstrates ability to work cohesively with all members of a team
