POSITION SUMMARY:
The Registered Nurse (RN) is a regulated health care professional who adheres to and models the Standards and Guidelines of the College of Nurses of Ontario; the SJHH mission, vision and values, policies and procedures; and applicable specialty standards. The RN provides patient/client-centred and evidence informed care to promote health and assess the need for the provision of care and the treatment of health conditions by supportive, preventative, therapeutic, palliative and rehabilitation means in order to attain or maintain optimal patient/client function. The RN collaborates with the inter-professional team and assumes a leadership role in the delivering a full range of care and treatment to patient/clients including those with complex needs, high acuity and less predictable outcomes.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario required
Demonstrated ability to function to the full scope of nursing practice per the College of Nurse of Ontario
Demonstrated clinical expertise and 5 years of recent experience in surgical nursing working in acute (pre/postop) surgical environment required
Experience in day surgery setting preferred.
Experience in various surgical services preferred i.e. bariatrics, orthopedics, thoracics etc
Knowledge of surgical procedures treatment practices and post-operative care to ensure effective communication with other hospital units and discharge planning.
Certification in venipuncture and IV initiation required
Ability to perform Electrocardiogram (ECG) an asset
Current BCLS/HCP certification required
Gentle Persuasive Approach training preferred
Demonstrated knowledge/ability with patient transfers and lifts.
Demonstrated knowledge, sensitivity and expertise in the care of patients and their families
Demonstrated ability to function in a fast paced environment and ability to set priorities and organize work in response to client/patient needs.
Demonstrated effectiveness in organizational, leadership, communication and problem-solving skills.
Demonstrated initiative, flexibility and sound judgment.
Demonstrated commitment to ongoing learning, professional development, and continuous quality improvement
Demonstrated knowledge of adult teaching principles and ability to incorporate knowledge of health promotion and teaching into the patients post op surgical care plan
Demonstrated self-direction and the ability to accept responsibility and function effectively within a multi-disciplinary team.
Excellent Organization Skills essential with ability to prioritize and respond to changing patient demands.
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively (electronic charting/written and verbal) with patients/clients, families and other members of the health care team.
A good attendance and work record demonstrating reliability and dependability is essential.
Basic skill level with computers, MS Word, Internet searches, data entry and patient information systems.
A resume regarding further education, special courses and experience should accompany the application.
HOURS OF WORK:
Rotating start times as per unit schedule. Regular Days of operation Monday to Friday but may include weekends. Shifts may be assigned at King Campus if required.
