Trillium Health Partners is once again looking to expand our expertise in the area of Critical Care. We are offering qualified Registered Nurses (RNs) the opportunity to take the Critical Care Certificate Program by paying for tuition and supporting their time while they participate in the program. This program is designed for RNs who are seeking to develop and advance their Critical Care nursing skills. We are devoted to ensuring the best learning experiences and developing future members of our critical care team. Upon completion of the Critical Care Certificate Program, participants will have foundational, theoretical and practical critical care knowledge and experiences for a successful start as a novice critical care RN. This program requires a significant commitment from both THP and the RN.


To meet this goal, THP is collaborating with Michener Institute to provide the 11-week accelerated full-time Critical Care Course. Michener is a leading academic institution in Ontario. It is known for its small class sizes, faculty who are experienced health care professionals, and flexible supportive learning formats.



Applicable Unit(s):



Intensive Care Unit (ICU), Critical Care (Mississauga Site)

A 37 bed neuro medical surgical Level 3 ICU that is also the regional stroke and neurosciences center. Specifically, as a stroke and vascular center--we see patients requiring hyperacute stroke care, post endovascular thrombectomies and abdominal aortic aneurysms. All other patients are of the medical surgical nature, requiring invasive ventilation and monitoring.



Intensive Care Unit (ICU), Critical Care (Credit Valley Site)

The ICU at The Credit Valley Hospital Site is a 24-bed, Level 3, medical/surgical critical care unit staffed by an interprofessional team supporting a wide patient population within the Mississauga-Halton LHIN. We are dedicated to building a diverse team that reflects the community in which we live and serve. Our distinctive ICU offers first-rate care in an innovative environment supporting the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual needs of the community. Coronary Care Unit (CCU), Cardiac Health Program (Mississauga Site)

THP is a Regional Cardiac Program providing services and care in collaboration with our Regional Partners. The CCU at Mississauga Hospital is a 14 bed Level 3 Critical Care Unit working closely with our Cath Lab and Cardiology department to care for a wide variety of complex cardiac patients. Being a Regional Program, our unit is fast paced, high energy and highly skilled, the perfect place to advance your cardiac knowledge and skill while being part of a highly effective team.



Cardiac Surgery Intensive Care Unit (CSICU), Cardiac Health Program (Mississauga Site)

THP is a Regional Cardiac Program that provides services and care in collaboration with our Regional Partners. CSICU is a 12-bed specialty unit focusing on patients who require Cardiac Surgery including Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting, Valve Repair/Replacements and Dissection Repairs.



Critical Care Program Overview:



Online and in person learning Hybrid model - virtual facilitated classroom days, online self-study modules and clinical shifts Hands on clinical practicum (part of Michener critical care course requirements) Small group simulation based learning and skills building Supportive learning environments Clinical placement facilitated by experienced critical care nurses Dedicated critical care nurse educator and program leadership to ensure learner success Mentorship opportunities

Upon successful completion of the Critical Care Certificate Program, individuals will work in a full time capacity as part of the Critical Care Team. It is important to note that a commitment of two (2) years in length (post course completion) is required within the Critical Care Team at THP. This is applicable to all Nurses who are successful in the course.



Key Qualifications:



Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario in good standing required BCLS required ACLS required within 6 months of hire Current Coronary Care Level 1 and 2 certificate preferred for ICU and required for Cardiac Units Recent experience and exposure in Intensive Care nursing preferred Minimum 2 years acute medical/surgical experience preferred Advanced physical assessment skills Ability to think critically and effectively in order to prioritize needs in emergency situations Highly effective decision making, problem solving and organizational skills combined with excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written Strong leadership & assessment skills History of ongoing professional development and be a self-directed learner Ability to work within a multidisciplinary team and commitment to customer service and teamwork Experienced in patient education and sharing knowledge of expected outcomes and care Positive attendance and work record essential
