Summary of responsibilities
Reporting to the Supervisor, Assertive Community Treatment Team (ACTT), the Registered Nurse (RN) works as a member of ACTT, an interdisciplinary team that operates with a client care delivery model facilitating community living, psychosocial rehabilitation, and recovery for people with serious and persistent mental illness. The RN provides psychiatric and concurrent disorder treatment services and support to individuals and families using a care model which emphasizes a holistic approach of health promotion and client education, and encourages clients to take responsibility for their own health
Requirements of the job
Holds current Certificate of Competence from the College of Nurses of Ontario
In-depth knowledge of serious mental illness with a demonstrated minimum two years' experience in addiction, mental health, &/or concurrent disorders in a community-based setting
Demonstrated skill and competence to establish supportive trusting relationships with persons with a serious mental illness with respect for clients' rights and preferences
Embodies a culture of caregiver inclusion in the client's plan of care
Current certification in Non-Violent Crisis Intervention and CPR
Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills and the ability to work flexible hours and evenings
Highly effective oral communication and interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively with other service providers and across the service system
Able to assist in the management of client medications; including documentation, preparation and administering of long-acting injections as directed by a physician
Computer literacy including Microsoft Office Suite environment and maintaining electronic client records (CERNER)
Valid Ontario driver's license with access to own vehicle, and acceptable driving record
Demonstrated regular, punctual attendance
Demonstrated commitment to patient safety
Functional level oral and written in English
Assets:
Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing Certificate
Training in Crisis Intervention, Suicide Prevention and CPR
