The Acute Care Program is currently seeking a full-time, temporary (until September 23, 2026), Registered Nurse to work in COMPASS (Concurrent Outpatient Medical Psychosocial Addiction Support Service). COMPASS integrates provides assessment and treatment for individuals using substances with concurrent mental health concerns. This includes the provision of medical and non-medical interventions within our Rapid Access Addiction Medicine Clinic (RAAM), Fit-In Clinic, outpatient withdrawal management (day detox) and larger COMPASS programs. In this role, you will be responsible for conducting assessments and contributing to multi-disciplinary treatment plans that will involve liaising with other services, community agencies, and practitioners to coordinate and deliver care for clients in an efficient and safe manner.


You will provide client-centered psychiatric, addictions and general nursing care and ensure the security and safety of the care environment. You will practice in accordance with CNO standards, with CAMH Policies and the CAMH Practice Model, and the Canadian Standards of Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing Practice (CFMHN). As a member of the inter-professional team you may provide individual and group therapeutic interventions as well as actively engage in interdisciplinary and cross-program collaboration. In this fast-paced environment, you will be expected to utilize critical thinking, and a solution focused customer service approach to direct client care. You will be able to work with clients from diverse populations; contribute to program development; participate in clinical supervision; and provide education support and supervision to students. You will actively participate and support the research activities of the program, and may be required to engage in research training to achieve competence in this area. Your skills include the ability to make behavioural observations, mental status and physical assessments, monitoring patient's response to pharmaceutical and care interventions, documentation and ongoing communication with other team members. You will have sound knowledge of pain assessment and management modalities, crisis intervention, addiction nursing, concurrent disorders, recovery oriented care, and trauma-informed care. Your strengths will include an ability to perform assessments, develop, implement and evaluate inter-professional client-centered care plans within an addiction medicine framework. You will support a healthy workplace that embraces diversity, requires collaboration and complies with all applicable regulatory and legislative requirements. Some evening and/or weekend hours may be required. This position is located at the Queen Street Site.


Job Requirements




The successful candidate must be registered in good standing as a Registered Nurse with the College of Nurses of Ontario and possess a current B.C.L.S. (CPR) certificate. You will have two years of nursing experience. Preferred experience in psychiatric/mental health nursing. Experience in Addiction Medicine nursing is required. Preference will be given to candidates who possess, or are currently pursuing a B.Sc.N and/or CNA certification in Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing. You will possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills to enable you to develop the Nurse-Client relationship and work within a dynamic collaborative and diverse inter-professional team. Effective leadership, decision-making, organizational and problem solving skills are required. You have demonstrated ability to intervene effectively in the prevention and management of clinical situations. The ability to work with clients of diverse cultural and social backgrounds within an Addiction Medicine framework is necessary. Computer literacy is required. Bilingualism (French/English) and/or proficiency in a second language would be an asset.
