POSITION SUMMARY:



The Registered Nurse will provide consultation, assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation to clients with early psychosis and psychotic disorders in collaboration with the interdisciplinary Cleghorn team. The RN will utilize nursing skills and knowledge in the application of psychiatric nursing theories and practices in accordance with the Ontario College of Nurses Standards of Practice. The RN will engage in therapeutic partnership with clients, their families, and hospital and community resources.

QUALIFICATIONS:



Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario required Current BCLS/HCP certification required CNA certification in Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing (CPMHN(c)) preferred Minimum two years experience working with clients with substance abuse preferred Current and demonstrated knowledge of unique developmental issues of young adult clients and their families required Minimum 2 years experience working with individuals living with psychotic disorders required Minimum 1 year experience working in an outpatient mental health setting required Experience working in early psychosis intervention and thorough understanding of early intervention in psychosis standards of care considered a strong asset
Current and demonstrated:

Advanced knowledge of psychotic illnesses including etiology, prognosis and treatment modalities required Advanced knowledge of best practices and models of care in early psychosis intervention required Group leadership skills using a psychoeducational model Facilitation, communication, interviewing, critical thinking and problem-solving skills Knowledge, skills and experience in the principles and practices of psychosocial rehabilitation, psychoeducation, and recovery including hope and empowerment Ability to work in collaborative partnership with clients, family and community Experience in client and family care coordination Ability to advocate on behalf of clients and families Ability to provide intervention and support for clients experiencing mental health crises Knowledge of community resources to support clients and families Computer skills in Microsoft Outlook, Windows, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint and familiarity with accessing online laboratory results Knowledge and experience working with clients with substance abuse Ability to administer, interpret and clinically integrate structured clinical scales such as AIMS (Abnormal Involuntary Movement Scale), BPRS (Brief Psychiatric Rating Scale), GAS (Global Assessment Scale) into care Experience in mental health teaching to clients, family and community Demonstrated participation in research, best practice, program evaluation, and quality improvement Evidence of continued professional development and education Ability to assess efficacy and side effects of many different psychiatric medications: mood stabilizers, antipsychotic medications, and antidepressants Ability to administer medications including intramuscular injections Advanced knowledge of metabolic side effects of antipsychotic medications (risks, assessment and treatment) Knowledge and ability to provide transitional support for clients and family to and from service Willingness to adapt work as it relates to the pending changes resulting from mandated standards of care.
