Your Opportunity:
Within the Women's Health department, the labour and delivery unit aims to attract and retain high quality Registered Nurses (RNs) who will provide excellence in nursing assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of care delivered to women across the perinatal continuum. The labour and delivery RN provides holistic, comprehensive and family centered care to individuals, families and the community, both independently and collaboratively as a member of the healthcare team. The RN will consistently practice cultural sensitivity in a diverse, dynamic and fast paced environment where critical thinking skills are required within the interdisciplinary team setting. This includes delivery of antepartum care for complex patients, triage care for diverse pregnancy related issues, intrapartum care in both the delivery room, pregnancy loss and/or operating room as well as postpartum care for both mother and newborn, which may include care of patients on the postpartum unit. Provision of care to patients The RN is expected to provide patient centered care within the operating room and recovery room settings, in accordance with the ORNAC standards. As an effective communicator, the RN will provide family centered teaching and care, focusing on health promotion and infant nutrition. The RN is accountable for their own practice and will be guided by their education, experience, Alberta Health Services policies and procedures, as well as CRNA Code of Ethics and Professional Practice Standards. The RN will consistently demonstrate AHS values in their professional practice.
Description:
As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit Holders shall be paid $35.87/hour - $43.82/hour. Upon being entered into the register of Registered Nurses, the rate of pay shall be adjusted to the rate of pay applicable to a Registered Nurse in accordance with AHS/UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii) as applicable. Required Qualifications:
Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). If you have not practiced as a Registered Nurse within the last five (5) years, completion of the following free courses is required: CRNA Medication Management - Chapters 1 - 4 (https://connect.nurses.ab.ca/home/%2Flearning-and-development%2Flearning-modules%2F) and the NextGenU Health Assessment Resources Certification (https://courses.nextgenu.org/course/view.php?id=271#section-0) Additional Required Qualifications:
Recent experience in Labour and Delivery in an urban Labour and Delivery setting required - 6 months experience within the last 2 years at Level 2 or 3 LDR, or 2 years' experience in last 5 years at level 1 LDR. 2 years recent experience in urban critical care areas (e.g. ER, ICU, NICU, OR) may be considered. NRP Certification required. Fetal Heart Surveillance Certificate required. Understanding and ability to demonstrate the principles of Skin to Skin. Preferred Qualifications:
CNA Perinatal Certification or Post-Graduate Perinatal Certificate an asset. Minimum 2 years clinical experience managing and supporting Labour and Delivery, providing nursing care to high risk antepartum, intrapartum patients preferred. Triage experience preferred. Perioperative Certification & min1 year OBOR clinical experience preferred. PACU training & education, including a min of 1-year general recovery preferred. Connect Care Labour and Delivery Nurse access/training an asset.
