The FMC OR is the Adult Quaternary Level 1 Trauma Centre serving Southern Alberta and surrounding areas. Our OR includes 32 operating rooms and surgeries are performed 365 days per year. Our multidisciplinary team includes Surgeons, Anesthesiologists, Perioperative RNs, ORTs, RN First assistants and support staff. We proudly provide surgical interventions for over 22,000 patients yearly with the highest standard of care. FMC OR partners with the U of C to provide a teaching environment for medical and nursing students. We are proud to be the Calgary Zone Centre of Excellence for Trauma, Cardiac Open Heart, Neurological, Thoracic, Spine and Organ Transplant surgeries. We are a world leader in the development of the MRI Operative Suite and Interventional Hybrid Trauma and Cardiac Operating rooms. Other surgical specialties include Ortho/Arthroplasty, general surgery, Pacemakers, Vascular Access, ENT, Plastics, and Gynecology. FMC cares for oncology patients spanning all services. As a Nurse in the OR, you will be responsible for providing nursing care in the intraoperative phase using the nursing process, following governing bodies meeting standards of practice. You will act as a patient advocate while delivering safe, effective and efficient care in both a scrub and a circulating role. You will practice using evidence-based measures and outcomes and evaluate your professional education and clinical practice standards to enhance optimal surgical patient outcomes. Strong communication and collaboration skills within a highly complex interdisciplinary team; problem-solving skills integrating critical thinking and sound nursing judgment; time management skills; adaptability in a rapidly moving environment; and leadership and conflict resolution skills are essential to this role. As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit Holders shall be paid $35.87/hour - $43.82/hour. Upon being entered into the register of Registered Nurses, the rate of pay shall be adjusted to the rate of pay applicable to a Registered Nurse in accordance with AHS/UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii) as applicable.
