Make a difference in the lives of Albertans by joining the team at Southern Alberta Forensic Psychiatric Centre (SAFPC) as a Registered Nurse/Registered Psychiatric Nurse. Reporting to the Treatment Unit Care Manager of the Southern Alberta Forensic Psychiatry Center, the Registered Nurse / Registered Psychiatric Nurse will also carry out professional duties with the sites Not Criminally Responsible Due to Mental Disorder (NCR-MD) program and the interdisciplinary team. Will provide inpatient forensic mental health services to the NCR-MD patient population according to the professional standards of practice and the codes of conduct of Recovery Alberta and the College of Registered Nurses and Psychiatric Nurses of Alberta/ College and Association. Duties may include although not limited to patient supervision in and out of the SAFPC building, attending/facilitating groups, promoting the enhancement of independence via the site-specific recovery and rehabilitation model, preparing pre-board reports and participating in scheduled Criminal Code Review Board hearings, medication administration, 1:1 session, conferences etc. The successful candidate will also cross train to work on the inpatient assessment unit and participate in mandated court ordered assessment and stabilization of those individuals who have decompensated while in custody. This position has been identified and is anticipated to transition to Recovery Alberta effective September 1, 2024. As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit holders will be paid $39.58 - $54.16 per hour. Upon obtaining a full licence, the rate of pay will be adjusted to the applicable Registered Nurse rate in accordance with UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii) as applicable.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) certification. If you have not practiced as a Registered Psychiatric Nurse within the past five (5) years, completion of the following free courses is required prior to employment: CRNA Medication Management (Chapters 1-4): https://connect.nurses.ab.ca/home/learning-and-development/learning-modules NextGenU Health Assessment Resources Certification: https://courses.nextgenu.org/course/view.php?id=271.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Minimum of two years of recent experience in a general mental health inpatient or related setting. Solid interpersonal communication skills, organization skills and critical thinking skills. Demonstrated knowledge of mental health decompensation. Demonstrated knowledge of psychotropic medication. Nursing practicum at forensics will be considered in the absence of 1 year experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

A minimum 1-year of recent experience in a forensic mental health setting. Basic knowledge of the Not Criminally Responsible due to Mental Disorder (NCR-MD) legislation (Criminal Code Review Board). Current nonviolent crisis intervention (NVCI), connect care training, and N95 fit testing.
