Description:
As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit Holders shall be paid $39.58 /hour - $54.16/hour. Upon being entered into the register of Registered Nurses, the rate of pay shall be adjusted to the rate of pay applicable to a Registered Nurse in accordance with AHS/UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii) as applicable.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). If you have not practiced as a Registered Nurse within the last five (5) years, completion of the following free courses is required: CRNA Medication Management - Chapters 1 - 4 (https://connect.nurses.ab.ca/home/%2Flearning-and-development%2Flearning-modules%2F) and the NextGenU Health Assessment Resources Certification (https://courses.nextgenu.org/course/view.php?id=271#section-0)

Additional Required Qualifications:

Minimum 7 years of recent experience in acute neurosurgery/neurology nursing. 5 years of charge nurse or nurse clinician experience with strong problem solving and critical thinking. Experience working in FMC Neurosurgery/ED units. Strong understanding of neurosurgical & neurological conditions, assessments, treatments, and community resources. Proven ability to self-direct workload based on patient/MD demands and priority of needs with minimal supervision. Strong interpersonal & communication skills, with a patient-centered approach & ability to make independent clinical decisions within scope of practice. Experience with patient teaching & education in individual or group settings. Ambulatory nursing experience greater than 2 years. Experience with patient telephone consultation, assessment, triage and follow-up. Proficient in Connect Care (Ambulatory, Optime), Netcare, OR booking processes. Advanced computer skills, word processing, Microsoft Office Suite, Microsoft Visio. Able to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities. Able to lift greater than 20lbs. Must be able to push and pull stretcher and other equipment. Must be able to stand for prolonged periods, sit for prolonged periods, as well as tolerate constant walking and bending. Must be able to assist patients with mobility problems, including assisting patients to sit, stand & reposition as needed. Must be sufficiently flexible to accept re-allocated workload as per operational requirements

Preferred Qualifications:

Proven experience with lumbar drains, lumber punctures and assisting with minor procedures (staple removals). Clinical experience from FMC U111/ 112, ED, ICU. Has experience with HiFu patient procedures. Flexible and adaptable to workload changes based on operational needs. Ability to work with multiple physicians, adapting to their preferences for nursing support in clinics.
