Your Opportunity:
We are actively seeking an Oncology Nurse who functions effectively in a fast paced, acute ambulatory environment and who is interested in working within a dynamic leadership team focused on building a leading comprehensive cancer program in Calgary. This position provides safe, ethical, and patient centered care to adults referred for cancer treatment. The Registered Nurse (RN) integrates and applies knowledge of cancer pathophysiology, disease progression, and symptom problems to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate the outcomes of best practice and evidence-based care and other clinical interventions. The RN will Identify and assess the physical, psychological, sociological, and spiritual needs of patients and their families and provide professional nursing care to patients and their families utilizing the nursing process consistent with the philosophy, objectives, and standards of the Nursing Department and the CANO standards for Oncology Nursing practice. The RN promotes self-care by providing education to the patient and their family about the patient's specific diagnosis, symptom management, disease progression, treatment plan, and specific procedures. This role engages with all interdisciplinary members of the health care team, stakeholders, and community resources to offer holistic care of these patients by way of education and symptom management related to disease progression, procedures, and treatments. The RN acts as a patient advocate when appropriate. The RN will perform leadership roles as assigned by the Nurse Manager such as chart triage, provide supervision and preceptor other nursing personnel, assume the charge nurse role and other assignments as needed.

As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit Holders shall be paid $35.87/hour - $43.82/hour. Upon being entered into the register of Registered Nurses, the rate of pay shall be adjusted to the rate of pay applicable to a Registered Nurse in accordance with AHS/UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii) as applicable. Required Qualifications:
Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). If you have not practiced as a Registered Nurse within the last five (5) years, completion of the following free courses is required: CRNA Medication Management - Chapters 1 - 4 (https://connect.nurses.ab.ca/home/%2Flearning-and-development%2Flearning-modules%2F) and the NextGenU Health Assessment Resources Certification (https://courses.nextgenu.org/course/view.php?id=271#section-0) Additional Required Qualifications:
Minimum 3 year full time equivalent acute nursing experience within the last 5 years. 1 year full time equivalent oncology nursing experience within the last 5 years. Cumulative Oncology experience in an acute care setting within the last 5 years may be considered. Experience as a Registered Nurse: intravenous, hydrations, blood transfusions, PICC, port care and administration of medications. Able to work in a fast paced and unpredictable environment with frequent interruptions and distractions. Able to meet the physical demands of the job, such as overhead reaching. Exhibit excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to effectively maintain collaborative working relationships with members of the multidisciplinary team. Be self-directed and exercise independent decision making, sound nursing judgment and critical thinking skills. Exhibit strong time management and prioritization skills, with a demonstrated ability to function effectively within a dynamic environment. Exhibit leadership skills, including demonstrated ability and comfort with decision making responsibilities, coaching and teaching, and the ability to inspire and build confidence in others. Demonstrate ability to manage change and adapt to changing workflows, as we prepare to move to a new area. Demonstrate a commitment to and participation in professional growth. Preferred Qualifications:
Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing. Experience working in an outpatient Oncology setting. Experience giving IV chemotherapy. Central venous catheter certification. Completion of an Oncology specialty course (i.e. de Souza, ONDEC). Oncology designation CON(c). Membership in Oncology associations/groups (i.e. CANO). Knowledge and experience with the following programs: Connect Care and Netcare.
