Your Opportunity:

Under the direction of the Day Surgery & Short Stay Unit Manager, The Registered Nurse (RN) works as a member of the health care team, collaborating on the delivery of care to meet the needs of patients/clients during the pre and post-operative journey, as well as medical patients that can be in our care. The RN is accountable and responsible for their own practice, according to the standards defined by the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta. The RN provides care to patients/clients whose health conditions and needs may be complex and is expected to work to full scope of practice on two extremely busy surgical units. The RN demonstrates competence in delivering safe, effective and efficient care for patients in these areas that span both Ambulatory & Inpatient processes and in accordance with all elements of the current job description for Registered Nurse. Direct nursing care includes assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation for a group of patients within a collaborative care hub and works in consultation with RN & LPN colleagues and others to meet the needs of all patients. The focus of nursing care is to ensure proper pre-operative assessment and readiness of patients for surgery and to provide thorough care during post-operative recovery. The department requires someone able to manage a fast-paced atmosphere with strong nursing assessment skills. Leadership within the collaborative care team is required of all RNs in the department. A strong ability to communicate in a clear and effective manner guiding the care of a group of patients is necessary. As the turnover of patients in the care areas is rapid the RN will need to have physical stamina, strong critical thinking and a flexible nature to adapt to the unpredictable environment.

Description:

As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit Holders shall be paid $35.87/hour - $43.82/hour. Upon being entered into the register of Registered Nurses, the rate of pay shall be adjusted to the rate of pay applicable to a Registered Nurse in accordance with AHS/UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii) as applicable. Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). If you have not practiced as a Registered Nurse within the last five (5) years, completion of the following free courses is required: CRNA Medication Management - Chapters 1 - 4 (https://connect.nurses.ab.ca/home/%2Flearning-and-development%2Flearning-modules%2F) and the NextGenU Health Assessment Resources Certification (https://courses.nextgenu.org/course/view.php?id=271#section-0) Additional Required Qualifications:

1-2 years acute care surgical nursing experience within the last 4 years required. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, required. Proficient in Connect Care, Windows Office, Outlook. Demonstrated effective patient teaching experience (both written and verbal). Demonstrated proficiency in clinical assessment skills. Demonstrated strong critical thinking skills. Demonstrated high functioning time-management and organizational skills. Demonstrated ability to prioritize in a rapidly changing environment. Demonstrated initiative, flexibility and independence. Demonstrated ability to successfully establish relationships with both patients and their families and engage them in their care. Physically able to manage extended periods of walking, standing, sitting, lifting, pushing and pulling. Preferred Qualifications:

1 year Day Surgery experience within the past 3 years. Recent charge nurse experience preferred. Quality improvement project experience. Nursing working group or committee membership.
