Under the leadership of the Director of Care (DOC) and collaboration with Care Coordinators (CC), provides guidance and support to direct care team as is appropriate for residents; adhering to the current standards of professional practice as outlined in the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) and in accordance with the established policies and procedures of George Derby Centre.
Responsibilities and Duties
Assesses, plans, implements and evaluates resident care needs including physiological, psychological, socio-cultural, and spiritual needs.
Communicates, participates, and consults with the interdisciplinary team to ensure quality resident-focused care.
Maintains paper and electronic documents for accuracy and relevancy, and ensures confidentiality is followed as per policies.
Provides work direction to other care staff.
Participates in continuous quality improvement, education sessions, resident care conferences, meetings, and committees.
Performs new resident admission assessments and required documentation for hospital transfers.
Contacts resident MRP using current technology as per George Derby guidelines.
All safety rules and safe work procedures are adhered to at all times.
Reports all hazards, incidents, near misses and workplace injuries to the manager immediately and in writing.
Actively participates in all Health and Safety initiatives and make suggestions to improve Workplace Health and Safety.
Provides first aid treatment to staff and residents.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education, Training, Experience
Graduation from an approved School of Nursing.
Current practising registration with British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM)
Maintains a Valid Level 2 First Aid Certificate
Previous experience in Gerontology Nursing an asset
Job Skills and Abilities
Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing in the English language
Ability to plan, organize, prioritize work and problem-solve
Ability to deal with others effectively
Physical ability to perform the duties of the position
Ability to operate related equipment
Computer literacy an asset
Requirements
Must have an active BCCNM license
Negative TB test results conducted within the past 5 years
