Your Opportunity:

The Generalist Public Health Nurse based in or out of the Beaverlodge Public Health office, is Alberta Health Services frontline representative in delivering Public Health Services in the diverse communities of the North Zone. The Public Health Nurse (PHN) is a key position working in partnership with a multidisciplinary team and community stakeholders. The incumbent will: effectively use the nursing process to deliver quality care; provide safe, ethical and patient/family centered health care; independently provide health assessment, health planning, health education, supportive counseling, preventative and screening measures, referrals, and evaluation as appropriate. Also provides services to individuals, families, groups, and communities with attention to diversity and the social determinants of health. Duties include but are not limited to the generalist role of PHN. Provision of universal Public Health services includes immunization for all age groups, influenza & COVID program delivery, and health promotion initiatives. Communicable Disease Control (CDC) - outbreak management, notifiable disease follow-up. Maternal/Infant Health including postpartum support, lactation education, prenatal education, and high-risk assessment of mother, babies, and families in the home environment. Sexual and Reproductive Health - may be required to provide STI test and treat, Women\'s Wellness, contraception support, pregnancy testing and education in schools and communities. In addition to a competitive rate of pay, AHS currently has a Remote Retention Allowance in place to an annual maximum of $3,000. This allowance is non-pensionable and is payable on an hourly basis for all hours paid at the basic rate of pay.

Description:

As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit Holders shall be paid $35.87/hour - $43.82/hour. Upon being entered into the register of Registered Nurses, the rate of pay shall be adjusted to the rate of pay applicable to a Registered Nurse in accordance with AHS/UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii) as applicable. Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). If you have not practiced as a Registered Nurse within the last five (5) years, completion of the following free courses is required: CRNA Medication Administration Certificate (https://connect.nurses.ab.ca/home/%2Flearning-and-development%2Flearning-modules%2F) and the NextGenU Health Assessment Resources Certification (https://courses.nextgenu.org/course/view.php?id=271#section-0) Additional Required Qualifications:

Must possess strong assessment, communication, organizational and problem solving. Must be able to work as a part of an interdisciplinary team. Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision in a complex dynamic, fast paced environment. Demonstrated advanced critical thinking and decision-making skills. PHN requires individuals to conduct work both in a clinic setting as well as community settings including in homes of clients. External environmental considerations would impact working conditions. PHNs are required to perform physical duties including gathering clinical supplies, accessing upper and lower cabinetry, moving clinical supplies to community clinics, home visits, bending, crouching to support feeding/immunization of young kids, can move up to 50 pounds at times, navigate awkward positions. The PHN is required to pack, lift, move, and transport heavy and/or awkward supplies to various work sites. Service delivery may require walking several blocks and climbing several flights of stairs, awkward and repetitive movements, sitting, standing, and/or bending for long periods of time. Comfortable to drive-in all-weather conditions urban and rural. Preferred Qualifications:

Min. 2 years\' experience within the last 5 years working in a PHN unit. Baccalaureate degree in nursing is preferred. Other experience related to nursing practice in the community sector will be considered. Desirable recent nursing experience includes CDC, maternal/postpartum and newborn assessment, working with young families or pediatric population is as asset. Other maternal/newborn certifications such as breastfeeding courses, lactation consultant, and childbirth education are an asset.
