:
The Birthing Unit features eight private Labour-Birthing Rooms. Each room is equipped with a birthing bed, fetal monitor, and infant care centre. The team consists of labour and delivery nurses who provide one to one support to patients collaborate with the physicians and midwives to provide exceptional care.
As the Registered Nurse (RN) you are a professional caregiver who is responsible and accountable for providing quality patient care within a delivery model in accordance with the philosophy, policies and standards of care of the Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre (RVH), the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) and all relevant legislation.
Education:
Current Certificate of Registration from the College of Nurses of Ontario
Current BCLS
Current N.R.P required
Perioperative course or equivalent required and/or in progress
Coronary Care 1 required and/or in progress
Breastfeeding education required i.e. certificate of current within five years
Perinatal Certification (CNA) or equivalent preferred
Physical assessment course required
Post Anaesthetic Care Course or equivalent required and/or in progress
ACLS required
Current MORE OB participation preferred
Fetal Health Surveillance certificate or equivalent required
Evidence of continuing education
Experience:
Sound knowledge of nursing process and responsibilities of profession
Membership in professional association specific to nursing service area
Functions independently within scope of practice
Two years of current progressive Labour and Birthing experience in a level two or higher setting preferred
Two years of current progressive clinical experience in the provision of post-aesthetic care preferred
Two years of current progressive clinical experience in the provision of postpartum/new-born care preferred
Two years of current clinical experience in the provision of perioperative nursing essential i.e. scrub and circulate for caesarian sections preferred
Two years of current progressive experience in Post-partum and high risk antepartum care
Current progressive clinical experience in the clinical application of systematic fetal surveillance in labour essential
Competencies:
Sound problem solving, communication (oral and written), conflict resolution and decision making skills
Excellent organizational skills
Computer literacy in current software applications
Demonstrated commitment to the professional growth and development of self and others
