Your Opportunity:
The Stollery Children's Hospital is the primary acute care center for children in Northern Alberta and Western Canada's referral center for pediatric cardiac surgery as well as being a national leader in organ transplantation. Since it opened in 2001, the Stollery developed as a specialized site with expertise and programs to ensure children who require inpatient services receive the best care possible. Highly skilled child health professionals from around the world have made Stollery a well-recognized center for specialized pediatric services. The Pediatric Thrombosis KIDCLOT program provides specialized medical management for children with medical disorders and congenital or acquired defects with or at risk for thrombosis. The outpatient anticoagulation program supports the transition of children from the inpatient to outpatient settings, facilitating the transfer of care to referral sites, with supporting and managing inpatient and outpatient anticoagulation and follow-up. As a member of the interdisciplinary team, the Registered Nurse performs a variety of nursing duties in accordance with clinical policies and nursing care standards including coordination of care for complex patients from referring centers, pre and post-procedural counselling, database entry and follow-up planning for Cardiac Catheterization and Pediatric Cardiology cardiosurgical patients. Decisions are made in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team. Due to the clinical nature of the position, this is an onsite position only and no ability to perform remote duties.
Description:
As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit Holders shall be paid $39.58 /hour - $54.16/hour. Upon being entered into the register of Registered Nurses, the rate of pay shall be adjusted to the rate of pay applicable to a Registered Nurse in accordance with AHS/UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii) as applicable.

Required Qualifications:
Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). If you have not practiced as a Registered Nurse within the last five (5) years, completion of the following free courses is required: CRNA Medication Management - Chapters 1 - 4 (https://connect.nurses.ab.ca/home/%2Flearning-and-development%2Flearning-modules%2F) and the NextGenU Health Assessment Resources Certification (https://courses.nextgenu.org/course/view.php?id=271#section-0) Additional Required Qualifications:
BScN required. Minimum 5 years current pediatric and ambulatory cardiology experience required. Previous experience working with the Kidclot program required. Case management experience and specialized knowledge of care and management of patients with anticoagulation issues required. Experience providing education to pediatric and adult learners required. Prior experience executing/managing quality improvement initiatives required. Understanding of and involvement with research required. Program data management and development of program guidelines required. Able to determine resource utilization and direct referrals to appropriate healthcare providers required. Demonstrate assessment, critical-thinking, problem-solving, organization and patient care skills required. Self-direction, adaptable and flexible while working in a fast-paced, multi-faceted work environment required. Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills required. Reliable, dependable and requires the ability to work independently and effectively in an interdisciplinary setting. Detail-oriented and establish priorities to meet deadlines in a timely manner required. Requires proficiency with Microsoft Office including, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook email and Calendar. Physical requirements include lifting, pushing and pulling to transport patients and equipment. As this is a short-term vacancy, only candidates with the required qualifications will be considered.
