Your responsibilities will include:

  • Assess patients\' physical, social, spiritual, and psychological needs.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized care plans.
  • Incorporate teaching into care plans to educate patients and families.
  • Make referrals to resources as needed.
  • Support fellow healthcare professionals.
  • Operate within the framework of Providence Health Care\'s mission, vision, and values.
Qualifications / Skills and EducationEducation:
  • Current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives, or as a Registered Nurse or Registered Psychiatric Nurse in Residential Care and Mental Health.
  • Completion of a post-graduate critical care course, or two years of recent experience in an equivalent setting.
Skills and Abilities:
  • Demonstrated competence in performing CPR procedures.
  • Experience in teamwork, decision-making and conflict resolution
  • Demonstrated a teaching aptitude
  • Proficient in clinical leadership.
  • A strong desire to expand your professional skills and a commitment to lifelong learning in the nursing field.
Duties and Responsibilities
  • State-of-the-art facilities: The new St. Paul\xe2\x80\x99s Hospital and health campus will be the most innovative approach to the delivery of integrated care in B.C. and Canada, designed to appropriately address the future health needs of patients, families and our communities. From hospital care to primary and community health solutions, the new St. Paul\xe2\x80\x99s Hospital and health campus will continue to lead innovations in care, research, and teaching. The new St. Paul\xe2\x80\x99s Hospital is expected to open in 2027.

  • Support: We have a strong focus on unit education and development of nurses. Orientation ranges from 2-4 weeks of combined buddy shifts on the floor and classroom time with the educator. Support and development are at the center of all onboarding and new hires work closely with the educator, leadership team, and senior staff.
  • Centre of Excellence: We have developed a centre of excellence for colorectal surgery, kidney transplant, and MIS technologies.
  • Tertiary-Level Surgical Centre: St. Paul\xe2\x80\x99s Hospital is a tertiary-level surgical centre and has a total of 16 beds in the Post Anaesthetic Care Unit (PACU). The PACU is transitioning to a combined unit with Surgical Day Care (SDC) to align with the model of care that will be implemented at the new St. Paul\xe2\x80\x99s Hospital on Terminal Avenue. Both the SDC and the Post PACU will eventually merge to form the Anesthesia Care Unit (ACU).
  • Learning: In the ACU, you have the opportunity to care for patients in a short period of time with a focused surgical assessment process. The level of care and acuity of our patients is unique.
Your Day to Day:
  • Conduct thorough patient/resident assessments through chart reviews, observations, interviews, and collaboration with peers.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate nursing care plans based on evidence-based practices, prioritizing patient/resident needs.
  • Adhere to established policies, procedures, and PHC standards while providing high-quality nursing care.
  • Monitor patient/resident progress, evaluate outcomes, and adjust care plans as needed for optimal results.
  • Maintain accurate records of assessments, care plans, patient/resident status, and discharge plans using manual and computerized systems.
  • Identify and address patient/resident and family learning needs, providing education and referrals as necessary.
  • Provide direction to staff, promote teamwork, and share clinical knowledge to enhance patient care.
  • Support nursing research initiatives and contribute to the improvement of patient/resident care policies and procedures.
  • Advocate for patients/residents\' rights and dignity, facilitate discharge plans, and collaborate with families and community resources.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support the healthcare team.
