Delivery of preventive & promotive measures includes vaccination, screening, referral, follow-up, education, & client advocacy. Public Health Nurses (PHN) are required to practice with a high level of autonomy in community settings with the ability to be self-directed & exercise independent nursing judgement. The role is to promote, protect & preserve the health of individuals, families, groups, communities, & populations in the settings where they live, work, & learn in an ongoing or episodic process. Collaborative work includes other health professionals & community partners, supporting capacity building approaches focused on client strengths & participation. The PHN has direct responsibilities within a Population Health Model to assess key health determinants & respond to global, national, provincial & local mandates. PHNS will advocate and engage in political action & healthy public policy options to facilitate healthy living, Incorporating the concepts of inclusiveness, equity & social justice as well as the principles of community development. PHN services may include: community & health assessments, development & evaluation of plans: consultation & facilitation appropriate to all developmental phases throughout the lifespan; program delivery & follow up: immunization & communicable disease prevention & control; client advocacy; fostering appropriate use of the health care system; facilitating cooperation & coordination amongst the many health & social service agencies; collection & recording of client based data, involvement in nursing or other health research, quality improvement & safety and risk management. As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit Holders shall be paid $39.58 /hour - $54.16/hour. Upon being entered into the register of Registered Nurses, the rate of pay shall be adjusted to the rate of pay applicable to a Registered Nurse in accordance with AHS/UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii) as applicable.
