CORE RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POSITION



The Registered Kinesiologist will provide fit testing, health education and counselling for seniors living with Chronic Diseases and/or physical disabilities. As a key member of the inter-professional Chronic Disease Management team, the Registered Kinesiologist will:

Provide client-centered, evidence-based, efficient care to individuals either on-site at weCHC locations, within the community or via virtual program delivery ensuring care is provided within the framework of quality and risk management and the standards and scope of practice set by weCHC and relevant provincial regulatory bodies.

Develop, coordinate and teach all exercises, progressions, and modifications for all classes (virtual/face-to-face), respiratory wellness, group classes, functional classes, other fitness related programs and other community programs.

Train and monitor staff on how to execute these exercises/programs properly and safely.

Review client referral from prescribing physician/primary care provider and other community agencies.

Contribute to chart documentation, participate in chart reviews, case conferences and progress reports..

Network with internal and community partners to ensure an optimal continuum of health and social services for clients/patients.

Develop and coordinate classes and schedules to develop staff skills and optimize their protentional for growth and development, as applicable.

Develop roles and oversee staff, volunteers, and students during exercise classes

Develop and distribute general and specific home exercise programs for clients following evidence-based guidelines and practices.

Assist Physiotherapist in circuit program development and progressions, functional testing, oximetry during 6MWT and complete COPD fit tests, as required.

Conduct program requirements for seniors fit testing, including schedules, preparations, administration, charting and scoring for one on one fit tests and fit test post tests.

Check all exercise equipment on a regular scheduled basis ensuring preventative maintenance and manufacturing safety guidelines are followed; maintain ongoing equipment inventory.

Develop and present various educational topics such as; exercising with specific chronic diseases, exercising with specific injuries, exercise safety, exercise intensity and progression, proper equipment/footwear/clothing/etc, hydration, staying active with community programs.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED



Minimum of 2 years of Kinesiology experience in a community setting or public health setting.

Knowledge and experience in program planning and evaluation.

Experience providing exercise programming for seniors is an asset.

Strong communication and excellent interpersonal skills, combined with good analytical, problem solving, organizational and administrative skills.

Experience in program development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation.

Able to convey complex health concepts to the lay public.

Ability to observe and make effective assessment of clinical issues.

Ability to problem solve and to adapt kinesiology interventions as appropriate.

Clean driver's abstract, current, valid class "G" driver's license and reliable transportation to support travel across Windsor-Essex county and the province, as required

Bilingual (English/French) language skills an asset.

Education and certificate requirementS



Member in good standing and current registration with the College of Kinesiologists of Ontario (COKO)

Current Basic Rescuer (C) certificate recognized by the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario is required

Completion of a Vulnerable Sector Check prior to commencing employment.
