Job Description


The Medical Day Care Unit provides outpatient cancer care to approximately 600 patients per month for cancers including breast, stomach, bowel, lung and genitourinary, as well as hematological disorders. The Dietitian works as part of an interdisciplinary team comprised of doctors, nurses, pharmacists and social workers to provide high quality cancer care.

The successful candidate will provide evidence-based medical nutrition therapy to outpatients attending the Medical Day Care Unit and will participate in and or support ongoing research and/or quality improvement projects to improve ambulatory cancer care.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • The role of the Clinical Dietitian is to provide evidence-based, high quality, specialized nutritional care unique to each individual as part of their medical treatment to improve or maintain health
  • Able to work effectively as a member of an inter-professional team, collaborating with other disciplines to provide comprehensive patient care
  • Contributes to the academic mandate of the organization as an educator, resource or support for staff, students and members of the academic and professional community
  • Identifies and addresses educational needs for patients and their families
  • Demonstrates commitment to ongoing professional development
  • Is committed to, and participates in, program development, evaluation and ongoing quality improvement in the organization
  • Provides patient care in accordance with all professional and organizational standards
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Must have graduated from an accredited and recognized program with a Bachelor of Applied Science in Human Nutrition, or equivalent
  • Must be currently registered and in good standing with the College of Dietitians of Ontario (CDO)
  • Membership with Dietitians of Canada
  • Current CPR certification
  • Excellent communication, critical thinking and interpersonal skills
  • Proven flexibility and adaptability in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent time management, organizational and prioritization skills
  • Demonstrated commitment to and involvement with own profession
Must be willing to work evenings and/or weekends as directed by the Program.
