Registered Dental Hygienist

Job Type: Full- Time/ Permanent

Reports To: Office Manager

Position Overview:

We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Registered Dental Hygienist (RDH) to join our dynamic dental team. As an RDH, you will play a critical role in promoting oral health by performing dental cleanings, educating patients on proper oral care, and assisting in preventative dental care procedures. This position requires a thorough understanding of dental hygiene techniques, patient care, and compliance with the regulations set by the College of Dental Hygienists of Ontario (CDHO).

Performing Preventative Care:

Conduct thorough dental cleanings, including scaling, root planning, and polishing of teeth.

Take and develop dental radiographs (X-rays) as required.

Apply fluoride treatments and sealants as prescribed.

Assess and monitor patients' oral health and document any concerns or issues.

Educate patients on proper oral hygiene practices, including brushing, flossing, and diet choices that impact oral health.

Provide tailored advice for patients with special needs, such as those with gum disease, diabetes, or orthodontic appliances.

Perform initial and ongoing assessments of patients' oral health, including reviewing medical history, periodontal conditions, and any changes since their last visit.

Assist the dentist with the identification of oral health issues, such as cavities, gum disease, or other abnormalities.

Ensure a sterile and safe environment by adhering to infection control protocols.

Sterilize dental instruments, equipment, and operatory according to regulatory guidelines.

Ensure compliance with all Health and Safety regulations and the guidelines of the CDHO and public health authorities.

Maintain accurate patient records, ensuring all notes, treatment plans, and progress updates are entered promptly.

Assist with appointment scheduling, treatment plan review, and patient follow-up as necessary.

Work closely with dentists, dental assistants, and other team members to deliver optimal patient care.

Assist with patient treatments as required and share insights or observations with the dentist.

Stay current with advancements in dental hygiene practices, attending professional development courses and maintaining certification through the CDHO.

Education & Certification:

Graduation from an accredited Dental Hygiene program.

Active registration with the College of Dental Hygienists of Ontario (CDHO).

Current CPR and First Aid certification are a plus

Experience:

2 years experience in a similar role is preferred, but new graduates are also encouraged to apply.

Experience in a clinical or dental office setting is an asset.

Skills & Competencies:

Excellent knowledge of dental hygiene procedures, equipment, and safety standards.

Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain complex concepts in a simple and patient-friendly manner.

Ability to assess and identify patient needs and provide tailored oral health advice.

Familiarity with softwares (AkituOne, digital x-rays, cavitron)

Strong organizational skills with the ability to multitask and manage time effectively.

Ability to work well in a team environment while also being self-motivated and independent when necessary.

Work Environment: Clean, modern dental clinic environment with exposure to patients of all ages. The role may require standing for extended periods, as well as performing clinical duties that involve bending and reaching.

Schedule: The position may require evening hours, depending on the clinic's hours of operation.

Physical Requirements: Must be able to handle the physical demands of the job, including lifting and carrying up to 25 pounds, bending, and assisting with patient movement when necessary.

50-55/hour
